Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955857 Composed by Jacques Offenbach. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period. Octavo. 11 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6476035. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955857). As in The Student Prince and Faust the main character arrives at a tavern packed with students who probably should be studying, but instead they are setting the scene for the real drama… In Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) a lively drinking song opens the scene at Luther’s tavern with a rowdy crowd of students teasing bartender Luther and calling for beer and wine.  Originally scored for principle cast members and 4-part men’s chorus, this arrangement of Scene IV of the Prologue: Luther’s Drinking Song ‘Drig! Drig! Drig! Drig!’ is adapted for 4-part SATB ensemble and piano accompaniment.  This exhilarating drinking chorus is a great opener for an evening of drinking songs – or an evening of light outdoor entertainment – or a recital for community engagement.  It is in original French language.  Performance time:2:40+- Bring us your beer, your wine; Fill our glass until morning! Your wine is ours!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264673 Composed by Orlande De Lassus. Arranged by Jasper Swank. A Cappella,Historic,Religious,Renaissance. Octavo. 28 pages. Jasper Swank #857504. Published by Jasper Swank (A0.1264673). About the composer Orlando Lasso, Orlande de Lassus, Orlando di Lasso or Orlandus Lassus was born in Bergen (Dutch) or Mons (French) in Henegouwen, Belgium – which was a place in the Habsburg Netherlands at the time – in 1532, and was highly regarded as the best composer of his time. Temopraries appointed him titles like ‘ruler of music’ and ‘master of motets’. The roman-catholic composer was also one of the most productive composers of all times. Among his works are 53 masses for four to eight voices, and 1250 works for two to twelve voices in the form of motets, requiems, madrigals, chansons and songs for choir. Later in life, he wrote German drinking songs, as well as Dutch songs. From the latter category, none have been preserved. One of his drinking songs ‘Un jour vis un foulon qui fouloit’ was translated to English by William Shakespeare, after which it was used in his theatre play ‘Henry IV part 2’. About this work Prophetiae Sibyllarum is a motet in Latin for four voices. Posthumously published in 1600, it sets 12 prophecies attributed to the Sibyls (priestesses of Apollo later adopted by Christians) with a prologue. The movements are catalogued in order under separate opus numbers LV 1048 to 1060. About this edition This edition was notated from the composer’s manuscript (published around 1600), Das Chorwerk (Wolfenbüttel, 1937) and an anonymous reading score. The note values were halved for easier sightreading by modern singers. Recordings by De Labyrintho were studied for interpretation. On the base of these recordings, small checkmarks are added at places where collective breathing moments are suggested. These are not part of the manuscript.Great care has been put in the correct notation of the original work, as well as in solving apparent inconsistencies in the source materials. However, this edition was made purely to acommodate singers to study the melodic lines and should not be used for historic purposes.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723486 Composed by Traditional French. Arranged by Garrett Breeze. A Cappella,Christmas. Octavo. 9 pages. Lagom Music #6664657. Published by Lagom Music (A0.723486). This arrangement of Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella draws its character from the story of the text, as well as the melody's historical roots as a drinking/dance song. Generally upbeat and uptempo, the mood of the music tracks closely to the story of Jeanette and Isabella, two young farmhands who have discovered the baby Jesus and rush to inform the whole town and bring them to the manger. Scored for evenly divided SSAATTBB a cappella voices, this powerful setting is a challenging but accessible concert number for more advanced choirs.Find more Christmas music at https://holidaychoirmusic.comVisit https://garrettbreeze.com for a cappella music, blog, and choral commissionsBring a torch! Jeanette, Isabella. Bring a torch, come quickly and run! Christ is born, tell the folk of the village. Mary has laid Him in a manger. Ah! Ah! Beautiful is the mother. Ah! Ah! Virtuous is the father. Ah! Ah! Wonderful is The Child. At the stable who now comes knocking? Who comes knocking upon the door? Grant us entrance, 'tis gifts we come bearing. All of our finest we shall give Him. Toc! Toc! Grant us entrance, gifts we bring. Toc! Toc! Celebrate now the Son!It is wrong when the baby is sleeping, it is wrong to speak so loud. Silence now as you gather around, lest your noise should waken Jesus. Hush! Hush! See how The Baby slumbers. Hush! Hush! See how He smiles in dreams! Hasten now, good folk of the village, hasten now, the Christ Child to see. You will find Him asleep in a manger, look at Him there, His cheeks are rosy! Haste! Haste! Follow Jeanette and run! Haste! Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955866 Composed by Giuseppe Verdi. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Opera. 10 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6504223. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955866). The Brindisi (drinking song), Libiamo ne’ lieti calici (Let’s drink from the joyful chalices) is the famous duet from the Italian opera La traviata (1853) by Giuseppe Verdi, and perhaps one of the best known opera melodies in all the operatic repertoire.  This ‘arrangement’ is a practical performance arrangement scored for (reduced to) 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment; its aim is to ease the work of the pianist not having to deal with the many necessary page turns.  it also is a practical alternative for an SATB solo quartet to perform as an ensemble.  It is in the original Italian text. Performance time: 2:48+

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.960301 Composed by Cornish traditional. Arranged by Stephen Smith. Christmas. Octavo. 6 pages. Stephen Smith #6480313. Published by Stephen Smith (A0.960301). St. Day is the name of a village near Redruth in Cornwall, England, where a version of this carol was transcribed from the singing of a local man in the early 1900s. The text is a CliffsNotes version of the life of Christ, relating each event to a different feature of the holly-tree -- blossom, prickle, bark, and berry.  But the tune is a rollicking drinking-song, rousing and fun. The arrangement is inspired by, and dedicated to, one of my musical idols, the great American composer and teacher Alice Parker; hopefully it exemplifies some of the choral-arranging principles she has sought to instill in her students (and anyone else who will listen!) for the past half-century or so. Thank you, Alice!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1143904 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 37 pages. Studio at the Post #744209. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1143904). Duration: 16 minutes, 33 pp. Description: Exodus is a great story that belongs to everyone. Not only is it central to Judaism, not only is it integral to the Christian Bible, it is an immortal story that has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to oppressed peoples everywhere on this planet. It is relevant not just as ancient scripture but as living text, to be rediscovered by each new generation of an ever-widening Family of Man. The theme of struggle against oppression and slavery was just as relevant to the early Christians persecuted in Ancient Rome as it was relevant to the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, just as relevant to the Soviet Jews wishing to emigrate as it is to the South African Blacks resisting Apartheid. From the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition, to Ghandi's emancipation of India, to the Holocaust, to, full-circle, the ongoing struggles in Palestine today, the story of Exodus is a guiding light in a dim and often grim world. According to the composer: The Story of a Leader is a collection of ‘re-chorales’ I created one summer when I was totally immersed in a post-educational obsession with the 371 Chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. We used to study these to learn the rules of harmony and voice-leading (no parallel fifths, avoid crossed voices, etc.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I began my compositional career. That summer, now a professor of music in my own right, I discovered many broken and bent rules by the master himself and, along with the glory of being able to work through these Chorales myself at the piano, I felt an incredible feeling of liberation and possibilities unmediated by instructors of music theory. I began by stripping away all that Bach wrote, leaving only the hymn tunes which were not his to begin with. These tunes existed long before Bach used them for his tonal experiments, some attributed to Martin Luther, or someone else, others simply listed as ‘anonymous’. The same is true for the texts, which were then translated into English mostly in the 19th century (the provenance of each can be found herein on the first page of each of my reharmonizations). In some cases I modified the text to fit the context. I selected 12 of these ‘re-chorales,’ linking them together based on their texts in a kind of logic that worked for me, and created a narrative that told The Story of a Leader (Moses). This story is highlighted in the music with such techniques as cross-modal harmonies, points of imitation, a beer drinking song in one instance, and in another, to symbolize the parting of the seas for Moses’ people, an inversion of the soprano line in the bass..

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955816 By Regina Spektor. By Paul Horner. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Contemporary,Pop. 8 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6201627. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955816). My Dear Acquaintance (Happy New Year) was written by Peggy Lee and pianist Paul Horner for her 1983 Broadway musical, 'Peg.’ ‘Peg’ was a flop and the tune was cut from the show.  Ms Lee recorded My Dear Acquaintance in 1983 but it was not released until 2006. This song found new life in Regina Spektor’s 2007 cover.  The spirit of this song is in that of a good old drinking song and a toast to the celebration: Raise a glass and we’ll have a cheer… is a great way to welcome in the New Year.  This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.
