Choral Choir (Mixed) - Digital Download SKU: A0.835784 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Octavo. 2 pages. Paul Burnell #3396247. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835784). For voices and instruments.  The words adapted from the poem by Robert Herrick (1591 - 1674)Duration 3:00 The piece can be performed in several ways - possible options are: The 1st verse/refrain is solo voices (perhaps one voice, or one section). Men would sing an octave lower. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th verses/refrains are accompanied by an increasingly layered drone. The drone could be a mix of organ and/or instruments and voices. The voices sing the drone to ‘ay’ and will need to stagger their breaths. By the 4th verse the drone is in three lines - and perhaps is in organ or instruments alone because voices are all singing the melody line. The ascending chromatic line could be doubled an octave lower. Each line of the drone begins at the end of the previous refrain. At each verse more singers join the melody line. The melody may be played by organ/instruments as well. The 4th refrain is the loudest. The 5th verse is sung without the drone. It might be effective for this to be performed with a gradual diminuendo, or for singers to drop out one by one.

SATB choir (choir divisi) unaccompanied - Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8452-E Composed by Frank Ferko. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Creation/Nature. Instrument part. 20 pages. Duration 6 minutes, 7 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8452-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8452-E). English. In the summer of 2011, while I was visiting my friends Don and Sally Roberts in Santa Fe, Sally asked me if I would be interested in writing a new choral work for Don in celebration of his upcoming 75th birthday. The idea appealed to me very much, so I readily agreed to write the piece. Since Don has enjoyed a lifelong interest in the American Southwest Pueblo people and their customs, Sally provided me with several Tewa texts, in English translation, to consider for musical setting. I was particularly drawn to the imagery of Song of the Sky Loom, so that poem became the basis for the new work. The music begins with two baritone soloists singing an introductory 'call-and-response' to which the entire chorus eventually responds. The opening line of text is first presented in fragmented form, as if voices from all areas of nature gradually rise up and then merge into a unified chordal texture. As the text turns to the imagery of weaving, the musical texture, accordingly, becomes contrapuntal: individual melodic lines, sung by solo voices or small groups (the 'weft'), intertwine with each other and also with the main chorus, which provides the overall harmonic structure (the 'warp'). The following chorale section, infused with occasional chromatic inflections, represents the massive 'rainbow' in the text and brings the work to a unified conclusion. Song of the Sky Loom was first performed by the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, under the direction of Joshua Habermann, on July 19, 2016 with three subsequent performances during the following two weeks. -Frank Ferko Duration: 6:07.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP).
