Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308788 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. 11 pages. Tobi Crawford #898034. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308788). *Purchase 10 copies to perform this piece with your ensemble of any size*Purchase the instrumental pack (bass and drum part) here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/beyond-the-sea-instrumental-pack-only-22605052.htmlThis arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.748682 Composed by Anonymous. Arranged by Mark Reeves. A Cappella,Christmas,Classical,Latin,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 9 pages. Mark Reeves #3638835. Published by Mark Reeves (A0.748682). Gaudete for SATB choir and pianoThis Christmas Carol first appeared in print in a Finnish publication of 1582 entitled Piæ Cantiones Ecclesiasticæ et Scholasticæ Veterum Episcoporum. The æolian modal polyphony and Medieval Latin text suggest a much earlier date of composition originating from central Europe; the plainsong melody of the verses is derived from liturgical sources of the same period and was not included in the original document. This new arrangement of Gaudete is based closely on the original music and text. However, the original key of G minor has been transposed to D minor to create more variety in the voicing, yet remaining faithful to the original vocal parts. The piano accompaniment in the refrain is simply an amalgamation of the voices and therefore, in order to create a pure a cappella sound in performance, the piano part may be omitted and used solely for rehearsal purposes. As the verses were originally sung unaccompanied, the piano part in this arrangement has been devised to compliment the plainsong melody, but of course may be omitted in performance if preferred.Originally, each verse would probably have been sung by a solo tenor voice. However, in this arrangement, each of the four verses has been allocated to a different soloist. This should create the effect of a gradual build-up in the intensity of sound, culminating in the final fortissimo refrain.About the ArrangerMark Reeves is a professional pianist, piano teacher and music arranger, with many years of experience. Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1490010 Composed by Text: Eden Reeder Latta (1839 - 1915) Tune: Henry Southwick Perkins (1833 -1914. Arranged by Ken Litton. Christian,Lent,Religious,Sacred. 11 pages. Artist of Note, Inc. #1066874. Published by Artist of Note, Inc. (A0.1490010). Whiter Than the Snow/Eden Reeder Latta  - Henry Southwick Perkins BLESSED BE THE FOUNTAIN arr. Ken Litton (ASCAP)As an SBC music missionary active in Brazil I quickly discovered the hymns missionaries had taken with them as the work gained impetus from the 1890s when the Bagbys arrived to build on the foundation laid by early pioneers like Solomon Ginsburg. I found myself leading those hymns from the nearly 100 year old Cantor Cristão (Christian Singer) in the strongly attended evening services at the Igreja Batista Rio Doce (Sweet River Baptist Church) in Recife, with people literally leaning in through the windows from outside to sing along. Just a normal p.m. attendance or... curiosity about the missionary leading? No, certainly it was the message of the gospel in these great hymns and in the Brazilians’ creative work as well. I mainly remember holding that small print hymnal in one hand and leading with the other (shaking badly) and singing in Portuguese! From that kind of congregational participation I vividly remember the hymn Blessed be the Fountain by Eden Reeder Latta (1839 - 1915) and Henry Southwick Perkins (1833 -1914) with it’s energetic dotted eighth and sixteenth rhythm figures and text of confession based on Zechariah 13:1. That text was very important in the lives of disciples in Brazil and in my own heart. Here I have used only the verses of the text and tune, simply smoothing out the rhythm and adjusting the lyric to more modern usage (yet preserving the devotional pronouns Thee, Thy and Thine). The tune BLESSED BE THE FOUNTAIN is altered in rhythm, tempo and one descending interval from the original.  The arrangement is by me, having built the intro, interlude and key change as well as the ending from the material that constituted the refrain in the origina. As a bridge and additional textual/musical impulse into the key change and final verse I’ve interpolated the refrain from the well-known gospel hymn Whiter than Snow (FISCHER) by James Nicholson and William G. Fischer. The voices include a wide variety of unison, two-part and four-part passages that are well within the capability of the average church choir. The accompaniment difficulty level is about as minimal as it can be I hope, while still reflecting support for the voices, a measure of variety as well as some real independence.I certainly think choirs of some ability and their dedicated accompanists will enjoyWhiter Than the Snow as much as I have in developing it.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1364481 Composed by Dykes, Zimmerman, Gruber, Crawford, Boskerck, Offenbach, Ward. Arranged by James Hoffmann. A Cappella,Historic,Patriotic. 19 pages. James Hoffmann #948004. Published by James Hoffmann (A0.1364481). O Trinity of love and power . . .   This 4th verse of the beloved hymn  Eternal Father Strong to Save opens the work, followed by a spirited and fresh treatment of the songs of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marines, and concludes with the refrain of America the Beautiful.  Scored for a cappella SATB chorus, the piece opens with a TTBB solo quartet.  Challenges in rhythm, fast articulations, and expanded ranges will keep advanced singers engaged. And for the music history and literature aficionados, Anchors Aweigh features an accompanying figure from Schubert's Trout.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576776 Composed by Roland Rogers. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Christian,Romantic Period. Octavo. 7 pages. David Warin Solomons #432529. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576776). Transcription of Roland Rogers' victorian choral piece The Storm, with words by Adelaide Anne Procter (who also wrote the words for the famous song by Arthur Sullivan The Lost Chord) An arrangement of this music for woodwind quartet is also available on this site. The sound sample is sung by me (transposed down a fourth). The tempest rages wild and high, The waves lift up their voice and cry Fierce answers to the angry sky, - Miserere Domine. Through the black night and driving rain, A ship is struggling, all in vain To live upon the stormy main; - Miserere Domine. The thunders roar, the lightnings glare, Vain is it now to strive or dare; A cry goes up of great despair, - Miserere Domine. The stormy voices of the main, The moaning wind, the pelting rain Beat on the nursery window pane: - Miserere Domine. Warm curtained was the little bed, Soft pillowed was the little head; The storm will wake the child, they said: Miserere Domine. Cowering among his pillows white He prays, his blue eyes dim with fright, Father save those at sea to-night! Miserere Domine. The morning shone all clear and gay, On a ship at anchor in the bay, And on a little child at play, - Gloria tibi Domine!
