Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258952 By Lana Del Rey. By Elizabeth Grant and Rick Nowels. Arranged by Samantha Takes. Children,Instructional,Pop. Octavo. 15 pages. Samantha Takes #852200. Published by Samantha Takes (A0.1258952). This version was arranged to fit the changing voices and interests of middle school students as well as student accompanists. It is placed in a key and range that works well especially for young men with changing voices. It's mostly in unison and octaves with one optional harmony section that is very easy to pick up on. There is also an optional beat boxing portion at the beginning of the tune (which should aim to sound like a cajon or a cajon could be substituted in for a majority of the song) as well as a dropping of the beat after an accelerando that really surprises the audience and pleases many ears that like electric dance music styles.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1139026 Composed by Kevin G. Pace (ASCAP), Mary Ann W. Snowball. Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 3 pages. Kevin G. Pace #739308. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1139026). A beautiful, sacred hymn with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball. Text: 1. Beyond the deep horizon and ever wand'ring hills, There is a holy heaven when mortal life has stilled. Beyond the clouds and rainbow, beyond each azure sky, There is a place of total rest where peace forever lies. 2. Beyond the ocean currents and endless sandy shores, There is a holy haven where strife will be no more. Beyond each ev'ning's moonlight and ev'ry numbered star, There is a place near heaven's view, a place which now seems far. 3. Beyond the reach of sunshine and warmth of summer days, There is a God in heaven, and He will ever stay. Beyond each earthly asking, where prayers are heaven sent, There is a place where He resides and perfect Love is met. Chorus: Home at last, to live in God's presence where all will be at peace. Home at last, where God's pure love will shine and never, ever cease.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.900166 By Sarah Labrie, Conductor - Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop, Sarteano, Italy. By Mary Ellen Haupert. Easter,Sacred,Spiritual. 5 pages. Mary Ellen Haupert #3031789. Published by Mary Ellen Haupert (A0.900166). ILLUMINE LE TENEBRE (SSAATTBB) For Jean Saladino and the Viterbo University Concert Choir TRANSLATION of TEXT: Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out your holy and true command. Amen. - St. Francis of Assisi's Prayer before the Crucifix NOTES from the composer: One year ago, I had the privilege of participating in the Leadership Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome (2011) sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Franciscan Healthcare, and Viterbo University.  I carried with me, not only the responsibility of bringing back a hint of Francis’ lived experience to my students, but the desire to compose something wholly Franciscan. The San Damiano Cross is one of the most distinctive Franciscan images we have on campus.  The gentle Jesus that hangs on this 12th-century icon will forever be linked to Francis’ dramatic step from citizen to sainthood-welcoming his earnest prayer to enlighten the darkness of his heart.  The Basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi holds both the San Damiano Cross and the remains of his confidante, St. Clare.  It seemed a good place to start getting serious. Copying the prayer in at least six different languages, I tucked it away in my travel books, not digging it out again until the following summer (2012).  The opening phrases in the piece came easily enough (Altissimo, glorioso Dio), but I stumbled through a handful of ideas before coming up with the mantra (illumine le tenebre…).  It made sense that Francis would joyfully address God singing forte (Altissimo and Signore), while quietly chanting his humble prayers for faith, hope, charity, and knowledge. The friendship between Francis and Clare can’t be missed, not only in the intermingling of SATB voices, but in the setting of che faccia lo tuo santo e verace comadamento (that I may carry out your holy and true command).  The phrase is sung only once by the women before the final return of the illumine chant (which is repeated throughout by the men).  Maybe I chanced on weaving some of Clare’s courage with Francis’ persistence into Illumina le tenebre, all while trying to compose something wholly Franciscan?   ---Mary Ellen Haupert, October 2012.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.973048 Composed by Francis Kayali. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 19 pages. Francis Kayali #6230277. Published by Francis Kayali (A0.973048). The Gift to Sing is a poem by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) published in 1917. The central theme of the text is one of optimism and resilience, using the power of song – meaning, more broadly, art or any kind of artful, heightened expression – to overcome adversity. Although the poem can be interpreted broadly to pertain to any kind of struggle, it is likely that Johnson, as a civil-rights activist was alluding more specifically to the oppression African-Americans in the United States, a struggle that continues to this day, in 2020. I composed this setting in September of 2020, right after the Black Lives Matter protests that took place that summer, so current events played a role in this interpretation on my part as well. If one reads the poem as pertaining the continued struggle of African Americans, some passages may come across as ambiguous. For instance, I brood not over the broken past should not be taken as suggesting that the horrors of the past should be forgotten, but as an injunction that the memory of these horrors should not discourage us or diminish our resolve to work toward overcoming the injustices. The musical inspiration for the opening of the piece comes from the song Lonesome Valley, which starts with a pentatonic melodic gesture. The pentatonic scale is often used in African American Spirituals, Christian hymns, and folksongs (e.g., Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Amazing Grace, How Can I Keep from Singing?, Red River Valley, Oh Shenandoah). The more rhythmic parts take inspiration from the African-American spiritual tradition, as found for instance in the choral music of Moses Hogan (1957-2003). Meanwhile, the tenor solo at the end, is intended to be very loud, bright, and without the pronounced vibrato one would find in a Western operatic style. This kind of bright and intense vocal sound is not unfamiliar to most listeners, who may have encountered it in places as varied as Sacred Harp singing, the opening of the Lion King soundtrack, or the Muslim call to prayer.

SATB choir (choir divisi) and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6475-E Composed by Elena Ruehr. 29 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6475-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6475-E). English.Rain Down was written during the summer of 1989 as a work that could be performed by a good amateur choir. This piece is made of a continuous seven note pattern repeated within an eight beat structure. A floating quarter note syncopates and displaces the pattern within the measure. The pattern is transformed by a variety of musical operations, including octave doublings, register changes, and canons between the hands. The original pitches (A, D, G, C, E, F#, Bb) undergo transposition, inversion, retrograde, and retrograde inversion, occasionally with two forms of the pattern occurring at the same time. In addition, the pattern is truncated in the middle of the piece, and repeats every four eighth notes rather than every eight. The structure of the choral entrances is also based on the pattern. Each voice enters at the same time and on the same pitch as that played by the piano. Monophonic lines, homophony, counterpoint, and imitation are created from the basic structure of the pattern. Even when the piano is absent, the structure of the pattern controls the entrances of the voices. Mary Ellen Solt’s rain down is an example of concrete poetry. Its gradually changing repetitive patterns inspired the form of the music. Duration: 8:00.

Published by Christian Humcke (A0.1023762). Instrumentation: SATB a cappella choir (with divisi)Duration: 4’Completed: January 2015When darkness swallows up the moonAnd sheets of nightfall swamp the duneThe trees resound with hollowed moans; The crickets chant their rustic tune. When ocean speaks in cyclic dronesAnd looks into the sky of bonesThe waves give whispered, ancient yawns; The winds give crisp and soothing tones.A place where sparrows of the dawnWill flit across the bridge that's drawn; The bridge that runs across the dreamWill be a path for golden fawn.Resplendent stars' cascading gleamIlluminate the hidden stream.Through summer bronze, through autumn rust,Through winter rice and spring of cream. When storms come forth in mighty gustand earth reveals its speckled crust,Then all the rocks will turn to sand,And all the sand will turn to dust.
