Brenda Portman writes a stunning yet serene SATB setting of this hymn paraphrase of Psalm 23 by Isaac Watts, paired with the familiar tune RESIGNATION. The melody moves from low to high voices and the rich choral harmonies are reflective of lush, verdant meadows. A gorgeous cello part floats around the voices with a beautifully flowing piano accompaniment, all written in a well-developed and mature style. Ideal for All Saints, the Easter season, funerals and memorials, communion, and with themes of hope and comfort.

This particular SATTBB arrangement for A Capella choir holds a special place in my Arranging journey. I still think to this day it's one of my personal favorites: It's creatively emulating the instruments on the original Jennifer Rush audio, plays with counterpoint in the middle voices (Tenors 1 and 2), recalls a few melodies from Harry Styles' As we were, and around the end, it's interesting to hear how the basses and the tenors re-create that vintage 80's ballad drum beats.
