The peninsula at Gallipoli in Turkey is now marked with cemeteries; particularly striking are the graves of Australian and New Zealand infantry, which are marked with epitaphs provided by the families of the fallen. Five of these epitaphs have been included in the text for “Waves of Gallipoli,� along with lines from poet Leon Gellert, a Gallipoli veteran. In the music we can hear the undulating of the Aegean Sea lapping the coastline of Gallipoli, sad melismas complement the idea of “moaning;� following the epitaphs, a single voice sounds the bugle call, “The Last Post,� which is sounded at ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corp) Day dawn services each year, memorializing the soldiers who fell at Gallipoli.

And again bursting out, the same text is repeated in a grand conclusion to this movement and the entire work.

Rhythmic, dance-like, and fun. The organ accompaniment sometimes doubles, sometimes punctuates. The movement ends much as it began, in the dramatic slow statement of Surge, illuminare..

Here the lyrics tells a love in a hard moment of life and every element is placed in a delicate balance where any change can be disruptive.Even trying to modify the music style would require an artist of the same weight, and I am not.So I tried to stay close to the original, using the most recognizable pattern of the song (the notes in sixteenth).Since we know that the vocal versions have to be shorter than the played ones (ears get bored before) and the original song if 4 minutes long, I cut the entire verse Ti porterò.... For those who want to play also the missing part, it’s easy: from bar 41 go back to bar 5, sing up to bar 18 (with the lyrics changed for the lead, Ti porterò..., other voices do not change) and then go ahead to bar 42 and from there to the end.
