SKU: A0.1446940

By Frankie Moreno. By Bahia Burnelle, Frank Moreno, Rick Moreno, and Tony Moreno. Arranged by Garrett Breeze. Pop,Singer/Songwriter. 8 pages. Lagom Music #1026710. Published by Lagom Music (A0.1446940).

Leading off with an ear worm of a bass line, this infectiously upbeat retro tune originally sung by Frankie Moreno is a fantastic way to open or close your show choir’s performance. The lyrics tell a compelling story about the chase after stardom and fame, using Los Angeles (“The City of Angels”) as a backdrop. Available for SATB or SSA and including parts for a full show band, this arrangement would also be successful using a small rhythm section if the full instrumentation was unavailable.

From the BREEZE TUNES SHOW CHOIR SONGWRITER SERIES, a collection of competitive show choir arrangements of songs written by independent artists, arranged by Garrett Breeze. To view more titles in the series or find more music for show choir visit

Composed by Bernard Sexton. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Praise & Worship. 9 pages. Trinity Music Press #877285. Published by Trinity Music Press (A0.1286210).

A heartful scripture-based Christmas carol for SATB voices + piano accompaniment. The gentle introduction in the females voices is followed by various contrasting voicings which lead to the climatic final verse with a soaring descant.

In a cold and lonesome stable where Jesus was born
The gentle mother, Mary, cradled her child that Christmas morn
Though he lay within a manger, though his head rested on hay
He, the king, foretold by prophets, was born that wondrous day.

Angels in the skies above him proclaimed their sweet song
“All praise and honour to the Christ-child”, acclaimed the heavenly throng
“Peace  on earth, goodwill to all men, glory to the new-born king,
Jesus, saviour, our redeemer, glad tidings now we bring.”

Wise men from the East, they journeyed, they came from afar
They did the evil Herod’s bidding and followed the bright star
On they travelled to the stable where they kneeled and hommage paid
Gold and frankincense and myhrr, their gifts before him laid.

Weary shepherds on the hillsides their flocks watched by night
An angel then appeared before them, a blinding, fearsome sight
“Do not fear”,the angel told them, “go to Bethlehem and see
Born this night in David’s city, the Lord, Messiah, he”.

Praise be to the the frightened shepherds who left flocks at night
And praise be to the travelling wise men who followed the bright light
Praise be to the heavenly angels, singing of the saviour’s  birth
And praise be to our Lord, Jesus, who brought peace on earth.

Composed by Judith Shatin. African American Heritage. 17 pages. Duration 4 minutes, 45 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #7149-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.7149-E).

English.

Why the Caged Bird Sings for SATB chorus and piano, is a setting of Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, Sympathy. His poem speaks through poetic metaphor of the suffering of repression. It inspires us to lift up our voices and to speak out in sympathy. Author Maya Angelou used the line, “I know why the caged bird sings” as the title of her autobiographical novel, and also of her own poem of the same name.
Commissioned by the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, this setting is energetic and colorful, with skillful painting of the text and a deft piano accompaniment which moves things along without obscuring the vocal writing. Duration: 4:45.

Composed by Ethan R. Ray. A Cappella,Classical. Octavo. 5 pages. Ethan R. Ray #643236. Published by Ethan R. Ray (A0.1038298).

A meditative, introspective, and pensive a cappella SATB written primarily for college choirs. The piece foregoes complexities and flourishes and focuses on simplicity and melody. Text: Believe when you’re gone I don’t feel my soul When you are not here And when you leave me on some shore I think of how I’ll always love you And in ways I will grieve I will cry heaven If the beauty of the day is enough to break your heart Then come back angel See that your meadows give way to the sun I’ll always love you And in ways I won’t know You may grieve me too You may grieve me in heaven.

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. A Cappella,Christmas,Renaissance,Sacred. Octavo. 17 pages. Sandra Milliken #3691909. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774721).

As I Out Rode This Enderes Night is a companion carol to the well-known and very popular Lully, Lullay, also known as the Coventry Carol. Both carols were part of the Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. The pageant was a mystery play regularly performed in the English city of Coventry from the early 15th Century until around the middle of the 16th Century. The Pageant also included a third carol beginning with the line Down from Heaven, from Heaven so High.

The mystery plays of medieval Europe were traditionally created and performed by craft guilds based in the larger cities. These mystery plays focused on the representation of stories from the Bible, told in the local vernacular rather than in Latin. They told of subjects such as the Creation, the Nativity, the Passion and the Last Judgment.

The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors depicted the Christmas story, covering events from the Annunciation through to the Massacre of the Innocents. Lully, Lullay refers to the latter event in which Herod ordered all male infants under the age of two, in Bethlehem, to be killed.

As I Out Rode and Down from Heaven referred to the angel’s announcement, to shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem, concerning the birth of the Christ child and the subsequent visit by the shepherds to the manger, where they found the baby with Mary and Joseph.

Today, the two shepherds’ songs are often combined into a single carol with the title As I Out Rode This Enderes Night or The Coventry Shepherds Carol.

This new SATB-with-descant arrangement (the original was scored for treble, tenor and bass) incorporates an additional three verses, the lyrics of which are an adaptation of the dialogue from the pageant that came between the two songs of the shepherds.

Once, long ago, a majestic church stood on a high hill in the center of a great city. But more remarkable than its tall towers, great archways and grand entrance was the legend surrounding the bells. It was the custom on Christmas Eve for all the people to bring to the church their offerings to the Christ-child. And there had been a time when an unusual offering brought magnificent music from the chimes which were rung, everyone believed, by the angels. But lately, no offering had been great enough...that is until young, poor brothers, Pedro and Manuel, make their first pilgrimage through the snow to give their simple gift. This touching story is enhanced with a re-enactment of the nativity by the children's choir. Score and script included as well as unlimited performance rights for one year.  To hear the entire score, please visit the YouTube link.  If you are interested in accompaniment tracks, please contact: mtapublishing@gmail.com and ask about pricing.
