SKU: A0.763498

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Nigel Williams. Folk,Holiday,Patriotic. Octavo. 4 pages. Nigel Williams #5984275. Published by Nigel Williams (A0.763498).

Three selected verses from John Newton's text Amazing Grace arranged for mixed voice choir, with a solo bugle (or trumpet). Set to the familiar tune New Britain, the choir sing two verses, then for the final verse the bugle (trumpet) enters playing the military bugle call Taps. This arrangement is ideal for all commemorative and memorial events and services of worship where Taps is appropriate. Enjoy browsing my brass quintet arrangement of America The Beautiful with Taps, also available on SMP.

SKU: MQ.8827-E

Composed by Melissa Dunphy. Instrument part. 17 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8827-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8827-E).

English.

Commissioned by the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus and premiered October 6, 2019, at Masonic Prince Hall, St. Louis, Missouri, Artistic Director Philip Barnes. The peninsula at Gallipoli in Turkey is now marked with cemeteries; particularly striking are the graves of Australian and New Zealand infantry, which are marked with epitaphs provided by the families of the fallen. Five of these epitaphs have been included in the text for “Waves of Gallipoli,†along with lines from poet Leon Gellert, a Gallipoli veteran. In the music we can hear the undulating of the Aegean Sea lapping the coastline of Gallipoli, sad melismas complement the idea of “moaning;†following the epitaphs, a single voice sounds the bugle call, “The Last Post,†which is sounded at ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corp) Day dawn services each year, memorializing the soldiers who fell at Gallipoli.

SKU: A0.1137245

Composed by John Ross. Classical,Patriotic. Octavo. 12 pages. John Ross #737445. Published by John Ross (A0.1137245).

“For the Fallen†was written for Bec Beall and her choir “Lux Alba†and was premiered by them in 2019 at St Matthew’s Church, Albury, NSW, Australia. The words of this choral suite were written by the English poet Laurence Binyon in 1914, immediately after the Battle of Mons, where the British Expeditionary Force suffered a serious loss, soon after the start of World War I. The fourth verse (“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow oldâ€) has become known as the “Ode of Remembranceâ€, regularly recited at memorial services. This suite uses the words of the Ode for the first movement, with echoes of the bugle call “The Last Postâ€. The second movement, “They went with songs to the battle†portrays the soldiers as young men in fine fettle, physically and mentally fit for what lies ahead of them. The third movement, “As the stars that shall be bright as we are dust†compares the war dead to stars and constellations. They move “in marches upon the heavenly plainâ€. Will Longstaff’s painting “Menin Gate at Midnight†(reproduced on the cover of this score) movingly illustrates this concept, with ghostly soldiers marching by the Menin Gate at Ypres, Belgium. The work concludes with an alternate setting of the opening movement “They shall not grow oldâ€. A version of this suite with piano accompaniment is also available on this website.
