Taking inspiration from the original and several other different covers of this song, I've written out what is probably one of my favorite arrangements I've written. It's sure to challenge your performers and keep your audience engaged from start to finish!It starts with a soft drone in the Basses that continuously adds chord tones and volume to build sonic intensity and set the tone right out of the gate! We then move on to a slowed down first verse with the melody supported only by chords in the choir. Vocal Percussion leads us into a tempo change and explosive snippet of the melody before the piece hits its stride. Lots of upbeats, syncopations, and altered melodic tones throughout adds a high level of difficulty to this piece. As we get to the end of this piece, the ensemble will suddenly alter time to a half time feel that not only adds to excitement but also helps to bring the piece to a dramatic closing.This is written for Solo voice and SSAATTBB choir and a Vocal Percussionist.As with most of my arrangements I leave many of the syllables blank to encourage the director/performers to put their own spin on the arrangement with their own choice of syllables! Suggested syllables in certain spots and all necessary melodic lyrics have all been included for you!I hope that you and your group enjoys my arrangement! Christ Alone, gets a new look with a Gospel-like, a cappella arrangement based loosely on the traditional hymn by J. R. Murray and Eliza M. Sherman.  Some original melodic lines in verses two and three propel the piece forward toward a key change, and a return to the beginning Gospel sound. Appropriate for concert or worship. Optional hand claps in chorus.  Graded above Intermediate due to some syncopation, 4/4 transitioning to cut time and back, and the a cappella modulation from G Major or Ab Major. For the SAB arrangement, bass range may be possible for a lower tenor (C3-C4). Performance Time:  approx.  2:50 (3:15 if repeating the last chorus).  SATB is featured in the video.

The lyrics have been parodied from time to time, but when serious, they speak of hope!  A modulation from G Major or Ab Major transitions from the traditional sound in verse one to more of a swing style in verse two. The piano part is sparse and simple up to that point as well.  Graded above Intermediate due to some chromatic movement as well as rhythmic and melodic variations.
