Owen (A0.881192). A solo setting of the Good Friday Psalm 22, the words Jesus spoke from the Cross: My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? This Psalm setting would be perfect for Good Friday services or for use during Lent or other penitential seasons. It can be sung by a treble soloist, unison choir, soprano or tenor soloist. The accompaniment can be played on piano or organ (organ preferred) and is written in Baroque-style four parts which are distinct from the solo part. The melody uses the descending-second sighing technique to indicate the strong emotions of questioning and pleading with God. This would be a very effective solo or unison choir piece for Tenebrae or Good Friday.
