This is an original setting of the 14th Century Eucharistic Latin chant text attributed to Pope Innocent VI.  It is most appropriate for church choirs to sing during communion service, especially during Lent.  It is also appropriate for concert performance by choruses/choirs of students, amateur adults or professionals.  Here is an English translation of the text: Hail, true body, born of the Virgin Mary, having truly suffered, sacrificed on the cross for mankind, from whose pierced side flowed water and blood, be for us a foretaste (of heaven) in the test of death.  O sweet Jesus, O holy Jesus, O Jesus, son of Mary, have mercy on us.  Amen.  There are many settings of this text by well-known composers including W.A. Mozart and William Byrd.  This setting, like that of Byrd, is for unaccompanied voices, but is written in the homophonic texture and uses a few more modern harmonies.  Performance time is approximately 2:24.

This piece is my interpretation of the Latin traditional Gloria Patri text.  The first verse is in English, and the second verse is in Latin.  Both verses have basically the same music, but there are some rhythmic differences.  It is meant to be sung unaccompanied, but there is nothing wrong with using piano or organ.  It is an appropriate piece for a regular church service or a concert.  Performance time is about 2:20 to 2:24.

The New Colossus is a sonnet written by American poet Emma Lazarus in 1883 to raise money for the construction of a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty. In 1903, the poem was cast onto a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level. 'The New Colossus' reinvented the statue's purpose, turning Liberty into a welcoming mother, a symbol of hope to the outcasts and downtrodden of the world. John T. Cunningham (an American journalist and historian) wrote: The Statue of Liberty was not conceived and sculpted as a symbol of immigration, but it quickly became so as immigrant ships passed under the torch and the shining face, heading toward Ellis Island. However, it was Lazarus's poem that permanently stamped on Miss Liberty, the role of unofficial greeter of incoming immigrants�. In the current political climate, Lazarus's words remain relevant and poignant.
