Diesem Stück diente der Eingangssatz der „Desiderata“ (oder auch „Lebensregel von Baltimore“) von Max Ehrmann als Textgrundlage, in dem der Gegensatz von innerer Ruhe und äußerer Unruhe auf prägnante Weise dargestellt ist. Die Aufforderung, den in der Stille wohnenden Frieden zu bewahren, die der Text dabei zum Ausdruck bringt, gab diesem Chorstück seine Form und den immer textbezogenen musikalischen Gestus in nahezu motettischer Umsetzung.Die durch Halteklänge entstehenden Dissonanzen verfeinern das harmonisch tonale Klangbild. Eine Art „Begleitstruktur“, die auf einer Klangsilbe fast schon „instrumental“ zu singen ist, symbolisiert als Kontrast den Lärm und die Hektik – die Unruhe unserer Zeit.

Two Dalecarlian hymns without words: Bereden vag for Herran and Himmelriket liknas vid tio jungfrur.

One of my ensembles requested a new adaptation of the traditional regional Dalecarlian version of Bereden vag for Herran (Prepare the Way). Since I personally find the arrangement by Anders Bond very beautiful indeed, it seemed pointless. But my resistance was worn down in time and I composed this arrangement without lyrics and inserted the more traditional Bond variant. It is possible of course to replace this with a unison presentation of the chorale or to have the audience/congregation join in. If you prefer to sing the arrangement as it is, you should go directly from bar 25 to bar 31.

The chords to these two hymns have been added later, in the event that they might be a foundation for improvisation. - Anna Cederberg-Orreteg.
