Now comes his new piece, Ouverture, for 4-part mixed choir.When Erik Westberg commissioned this piece, he was looking for something to open a concert with. Fairly early on, I decided to evoke an image of fireworks, in order to create a fanfare for choirs and a tribute to singing. Finding suitable lyrics was not an easy task, so I began composing without any lyrics. Once the music was almost done, I asked Amanda Bjorneras to create a homage to singing. NON-TRADITIONAL MELODY: A great favorite, and a most well-known song among Christmas carols, Joy to the World was not originally written to be a Christmas carol. There were several melodies attached to the poem by Isaac Watts. The traditional version, which has become the most popular, is attributed to Lowell Mason, and is the fourth revised version. The first part of the tune in the popular version is similar to pieces by George Frideric Handel, and the melody for the second part is Lowell Mason's. Presented herein is a fifth version (maybe there are more!). If one of Handel's rousing pieces could be used for the first part of the song, why not another?
