Here is a fresh arrangement of a carol from an old church gallery book.  It is for mixed voices SATB with divisi and includes a piano part. The first verse is a standard four-part chorale.  The second verse is a trio for women and the third verse is a trio for men.  The last verse is a variation on the chorale that has the feel of a descant, finally resolving on the final notes of the original melody.

Joseph, Look and See is a heart warming look at Mary and Joseph's experience after Jesus' birth. It is set to an original text that depicts the nativity as a conversation between Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and the Lord.

This work was premiered as part of the annual Gallery of Living Art performance at First Lutheran Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2010.

Joseph, Look and See is an accessible, colorful work with an equally interesting piano accompaniment.

Joseph, look and see
As I hold our new child,
As he looks up at me,
How he smiles.

As the angel foretold,
Gift more precious than gold,
Only peace in his eyes,
Tiny eyes.

And behold,
It’s your star,
My Jesus.

But how will I raise
The Son of Man (God)?
Even now,
Herod searches for my child (baby boy).

Jesus, look and see
All the stars in the night,
As the light of the Lord
Shines down upon you,
My son.

Guide us with your light.

This festive setting of selected verses from Psalm 89 was commissioned for a private performance. The choir parts require some modest divisi and the trumpet player can be stationed either adjacent to or above the choir in a gallery. Intermediate level in difficulty, the texture is chord-based throughout with a polyphonic 'A-men'. Suitable for a patronal service and also suitable as a concert piece. The digital audio clip plays from bar 27 to the end ('My hand shall hold him fast and my arm shall strengthen him, A-men')
