By Etta James. By Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. Arranged by Roy Rashbrook. 20th Century,A Cappella,Barbershop,Jazz. 4 pages. Silverbright Music #900271. Published by Silverbright Music (A0.1311271).

At Last is a song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Sun Valley Serenade (1941). Glenn Miller and his orchestra recorded the tune several times, with a 1942 version reaching number two on the US Billboard pop music chart.

In 1960, rhythm and blues singer Etta James recorded an arrangement by Riley Hampton that improvised on Warren's original melody. Etta James' rendition became the title track on her debut album At Last! (1960) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

This arrangement was originally for SSAA (also available) - and was subsequently transposed and rearranged for SATB (with one bass split at the very end). Although quite chromatic, with a key change before the final verse, this arrangement has been performed by amateur choirs.

SKU: A0.924050

By Harpers Bizarre. By Harry Warren. Arranged by Dominic McGonigal. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. C8 Music #4278535. Published by C8 Music (A0.924050).

A Glenn Miller classic, depicting a train ride from New York to Chattanooga, Tennessee, passing through Baltimore and North Carolina. It starts with the old steam train slowly pulling out of the station, then rattling along with one of the great big band tunes. This arrangement includes optional train whistles and cabasa, played by the singers to enhance the railway experience. It ends with two cheeky chords for the final whistle, Whoo Whoo. It's suitable for any SATB choir and I have also done it with individual pro singers. Older audiences remember the tune. Younger ones want to know more about Glenn Miller and the big band era. Duration 2'.

SKU: A0.1176000

By Floyd Cramer. By Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. Film/TV,Jazz,Standards. Octavo. 22 pages. Stewart J Wallace #776126. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1176000).

Chattanooga Choo Choo was recorded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1941 and was the first song to gain a gold record for 1.2 million sales. It was featured in the film Sun Valley Serenade, released in the same year. Many other artists have recorded the song over the years, including Harry Connick Jr, George Benson, and Floyd Cramer.

This is an SATB choir and piano arrangement that incorporates some scat-style accompaniment in the lower voices, with the melody sung by the sopranos. The opening will need some careful counting - fingers clicks might help - and throughout the rhythms should be sung with a relaxed, swing feel. The words need to be articulated clearly too. The piano accompaniment mirrors the voices in the main sections and provides block-chord accompaniment in the middle 8, but chord symbols also allow for some freedom from the score. The sheet music includes a SATB-only copy, so it could be performed a capella.
