Arthur Godfrey was born around 1873 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. He was an amateur composer and according to the 1911 census, worked as a glass bottle neck maker at a mineral water works. His traditional carol “Christmas Eve� was published in the Barnsley Chronicle on 23 December 1933. In 2023 the carol was rediscovered in the Barnsley Chronicle Archives and shared with the public to coincide with the 90th anniversary of Barnsley Town Hall. 

Performers should feel free to omit verses and or alter the text as required. A keyboard part is provided for rehearsals.

If you need a song to help set the atmosphere for a mighty move of God, then HOLY THOU ART GOD is a great recommendation for anointed choir music to add to your repertoire in 2019.  Declaring God is Holy, Righteous and Mighty, this song's repeated theme, There is none like You in all that You do compels those present to give Him glory and praise His Holy name.  Although it is composed for SATB, SAT is still effective.  The duration of song is 5:13, but that stat can be ignored where the spirit of Lord dwells and moves.  Every music ministry deserves a let go and let God have His way song.  This worshipful piece does just that.

Earth was created by God’s holy hand, voicing the goodness of ev’ry blessed land:
Small streams that whisper of peaceful refine; mountains of glory which grandeur

Soil imbedded with truth and His laws generate being with wonder and awe.
All His praised birthing of planets and orbs models a unity shown by our Lord.
As in creation by God’s holy hand, all of His children were perfectly planned.
Those who inhabit this shared gifted space long for alliance through heavenly grace.
In our probation God calls us to peace, asking for charity . . . love to increase.
Though we must wait ‘til He gathers in one, earth will be clothed with the face of God’s
