Nowhere is it written that this life journey should or must be viewed in any negative way.Modulations that occur in several areas are meant to emphasize critical ideas of the poem, and the performers should take note of the melodic stress that occurs among the various parts (See measures 33 and 41). Dynamics are important in relaying the meaning of the text and should be observed, although the conductor should feel free to augment these whenever she or he deems it necessary. As always, relaying the meaning of the words through the music should always be considered the primary goal of the performance.

After the music was written, it sat in my collection of original manuscripts until Imagine Music Publishing agreed to publish it. I believe performers will find Mr. Theel's words inspirational.This work is an SATB setting with piano accompaniment. I consciously kept it brief. Nothing to detract from the lyrics. Perform it with expression and the message will unfold.

Observance of dynamics is crucial in tapping the full potential of the piece coupled with the natural expressiveness flowing from personal conviction and hearts in tune with the spirit conveyed in the lyrics.

The piano part firmly supports the solos and duets so that even inexperienced singers will feel confident. The choral parts are all within normal ranges and include some lovely harmonies.

This piece is divided into three parts, namely Adagietto, Maestoso and Grandioso. Adagietto represents the mysteriousness of space and the awe they felt as they took their first glance into the surreal world of fantasies and imaginations.Maestoso is the central part of the piece, where the main theme resembles the exquisitely beautiful galaxies in outer space. Over several years, they found a way to communicate with the extra-terrestrial and developed a mutual understanding. This part contains various majestically glorious melodies, symbolising the visions of humanity. They took a giant leap of faith for this nearly impossible mission to perceive what humankind can never envision. Grandioso signifies the lavish natural architectures that filled the galaxies and the monumental bonding between humans and aliens. As the friendship blossomed, they further explored the world that has been an enigma for centuries. Before the piece ends, the main theme is delivered again. This time, it is an emotional farewell as these astronauts return to Earth and cannot wait to share information that will revolutionise astrophysics forever.

However, it has been used, on occasion, in a concert setting as well. Within liturgy or other worship settings, it is best used as a reflection piece: an affirmation song following the proclamation of the Gospel, or as a thanksgiving piece following the communion rite. While a full SATB choir, with piano, flute, percussion, and brass can yield splendid results, Easter Morn is easily adaptable for use during a simple outdoor sunrise service using guitar and vocals, or with light instrumentation. The tenor of the piece is festive and joyful, yet, somewhat subdued. Fear and confusion initially gripped the women disciples who discovered the tomb empty and first heard the angel's question, “why do you seek the living among the dead? It was not until later when the words of Jesus regarding his resurrection sunk in: “just as he said, JUST AS HE SAID, that their joy overflowed in a chorus of alleluias! Navigating this tension, and capturing this dynamic is key to an effective performance of the piece.

By way of introduction of the piece, in 2012, I met my wife, and very early on we had different trips planned. I was going to visit family and Cindy was going back to Paris, a place she had visited many times. So it was that we were almost literally a world apart. Upon both our returns, Cindy shared her many photos of Paris with me, a place I have never been. These photos were but a few that really made an impression on me and made me feel almost as I were there, even though Cindy was there (in one of the most romantic places in the world) as musicians would say, “solo. So the title of this piece suggests a telling of the story in pictures from her perspective.In performing this piece, it is preferable to have a tenor saxophonist who is equally comfortable in an orchestral setting as in a jazz quintet setting. Though all the jazz quintet parts are very specifically written, with either chord voicings and suggested solos, there is room for improvisation in these parts, but using a keen ear and direction to know when to align properly with the orchestra.In my recording of this piece, Maynard Ferguson Band alumni, Andy Weinzler is the featured tenor saxophonist. Many Western New York musicians came together to record this piece, and I thank them all for their incredible musicianship and willingness to perform this piece.

Maombi na Sifa (in Swahili, for which the diction is similar to Latin) is translated as Prayer and Praise. As the title suggests, the piece begins with a prayerful chorale which leads into a joyous affirmation of life.
