Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1098119 Composed by W.C. Handy. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,Blues,Historic,Instructional,Standards. Octavo. 24 pages. Scott S. Stewart #701988. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1098119). William Christopher [W.C.] Handy, (who often referred to himself as the ‘Father of the Blues’), first published “St. Louis Blues,†(The jazzman’s Hamlet), his most famous composition, in 1914. It became one of the most popular and celebrated jazz standards in history. The musical style of a tango merged with the blues, and lyrics, a lament about a woman on the streets of St. Louis distraught over her husband’s absence – written in a southern dialect style – make this a fascinating introduction to the evolution of ‘the blues’ for student and audience member alike. Arranged for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment, and notated for a classically trained group of musicians, this entry level primer serves not only to inform but present Handy’s creativity and genius. Performance time: 6:00+ An apt study for Black History month.

Thanks, John.  Blue Bossa is an instrumental jazz composition by Kenny Dorham . It was introduced on Joe Henderson's 1963 album Page One. A blend of hard bop and bossa nova, the tune was possibly influenced by Dorham's visit to the Rio de Janeiro Jazz Festival in 1961. The tune has since been recorded numerous times by different artists, making it a jazz standard.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1267134 By Peggy Lee. By Joe McCoy. Arranged by Michael Thomas Coull. 20th Century,Blues,Contemporary,Jazz,Standards. 10 pages. MTC Publishing #859768. Published by MTC Publishing (A0.1267134). Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money, Too) - Choral Arrangement for SATB and Piano arranged by Michael Thomas CoullWhy Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too!) was originally recorded as Weed Smoker's Dream and is an American blues and jazz-influenced pop song written by ‘Kansas Joe’ McCoy and Herb Morand in 1936.  Both men are given composer credits on the original 78 record label, although Morand’s name is misspelled. In 1936, the Harlem Hamfats recorded the Weed Smoker’s Dream.  Band member Joe McCoy later rewrote the song, refining both the composition and lyrics.  The new tune, titled Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too!), was recorded by Lil Green in 1941, with guitar by William ‘Big Bill’ Broonzy.  The minor key twelve-bar blues song, with a few chord substitutions, proved popular and quickly became a jazz standard. With its roots in blues music, the song originally dealt with a marijuana smoker reminiscing about lost financial opportunities.  After it was rewritten, it took on the perspective of the female partner, chastising her man for his irresponsible ways:  ‘Why don't you do right, like some other men do?  Get out of here and get me some money too!’A wonderful bluesy arrangement for full SATB choir with piano accompaniment, not just fun for the choir to sing, but also one the audience will really enjoy too.
