Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844244 By John Coltrane. By John Coltrane. Arranged by Gerhard Guter. Jazz. 10 pages. Gerhard Guter #4267419. Published by Gerhard Guter (A0.844244). If you’re looking for an up-tempo, minor blues swing with plenty of space for scatting and instrumental improvisation, then dig P.C.! This arrangement of the John Coltrane classic, which pays tribute to legendary jazz bassist and Miles Davis compatriot Paul Chambers, provides an exciting introduction, statement of the theme in varied textures, a challenging (optional) soli, and room for lots of energetic drum solos. Following an introductory figure reminiscent of Miles Davis and Victor Feldman’s well-known Seven Steps to Heaven collaboration, the arrangement features two optional background choruses to keep the blowing fresh and interesting. After the improvisation, the drums and piano drop out, sending off a challenging, optional soli (18 second mark in demo) featuring a doubled, walking vocal and acoustic bassline. As this section concludes, the acoustic bass drops out and the drums re-enter, propelling a fugal statement of the melody (25 second mark in demo). Following a return to the head, the arrangement modulates upward by whole step to its exciting conclusion. Piano, bass, and drums read off the included composite rhythm section part. The arrangement, which makes prominent use of sharp ninth chords during the head, is a great teaching tool for basses and altos in any vocal jazz ensemble! Demo performed by Christine Guter, Gerhard Guter, and Dina Humble Backing tracks available here: http://tiny.cc/mpnsuz

Published by Nicholas White Music (A0.1253228). A choral setting of the ancient vesper hymn for choir and organ, composed for the choir of St. John Cantius Parish, Chicago, and dedicated to the memory of Gordon McMillan. This was recorded on Saturday, June 29, 2019, in the glorious surroundings of St. John Cantius, and was premiered at Mass on Sunday, June 30, 2019.Decóra lux æternitátis, áureamDiem beátis irrigávit ígnibus,Apostolórum quæ corónat Príncipes,Reísque in astra líberam pandit viam.Mundi Magíster atque cæli Iánitor,Romæ paréntes arbitríque géntium,Per énsis ille, hic per crucis victor necem,Vitæsenátum laureáti póssident.O Roma felix, quæ duórum PríncipumEs consecráta glorióso sánguine!Hórum cruóre purpuráta céterasExcéllis orbis una pulchritúdines.Sit Trinitáti sempitérna glória,Honor, potéstas atque iubilátio,In unitáte, quæ gubérnat ómnia,Per univérsa sæculórum sǽcula.Amen.The beauteous light of God's eternal majestyStreams down in golden rays to grace this holy dayWhich crowned the princes of the Apostles' glorious choir,And unto guilty mortals showed the heavenward way.The teacher of the world and keeper of heaven's gate,Rome's founders twain and rulers too of every land,Triumphant over death by sword and shameful cross,With laurel crowned are gathered to the eternal band.O happy Rome! who in thy martyr princes' blood,A twofold stream, art washed and doubly sanctified. All earthly beauty thou alone outshinest far,Empurpled by their outpoured life-blood's glorious tide. All honour, power, and everlasting jubileeTo him who all things made and governs here below,To God in essence One, and yet in persons Three,Both now and ever, while unending ages flow.Amen.(Hymn from the Office of Vespers for SS Peter and Paul).
