Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1441952 By Kevin Longley. By Kevin Longley. Arranged by Kevin Longley. 21st Century,Contemporary,Religious,Spiritual. 38 pages. Kevin Longley #1021944. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1441952). The InspirationIn 2023 I decided to review a piece I had composed in 1990 to honor a friend I was singing with in a choral group at that time; Charles Munion. He never heard the piece as I felt the classical contemporary style would be a bit much for his ears! Beyond that I don't have allot of recollection as to the inspiration or what my thoughts were at the time of the composition. In regards to the revision, I added additional music to the third movement in order to balance out the movements and reworked some of the choral voicing. The MusicWritten in a contemporary classical style it follows the classic structure of 3 movements: First movement – brisk, loud forceful in nature Second movement – slow and lyrical Third movement – light and quick but with a forceful ending While in a contemporary style, at heart it maintains tonal centers throughout. While there is a few brief moments where I can here a little Bartok, as a whole I would say this piece is unique in regards to its style.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109087 By Kevin Longley. By Kevin Longley. Arranged by Kevin Longley. A Cappella,Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred. 10 pages. Kevin Longley #711630. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1109087). Inspiration While I have recited the Nicene Creed countless times, in July 2021 something changed. The church had cleared the return of the choir, post pandemic, and it was my first Sunday of singing in well over a year. That Sunday as I recited the creed something happened when I reached the line “And His Kingdom Will Have No End”. Was it louder? Was it spoken with greater conviction? Something was different! Maybe it was just me. I'm not sure but all I know is that every Sunday thereafter it had the same impact on me. Within a few weeks I decided to compose a choral piece about that very line. I had to! The Music For the most part the harmony and structure are traditional but do contain harmonic structures with a contemporary flair. The arrangement is refrain, verse, refrain, verse, bridge and then refrain. The first and 3rd refrains are highly similar while the second refrain contains a soprano section descant while featuring the bass's carrying the main melody. The overall intent of the music is that on every return to the refrain, it is louder than the previous refrain. This signifies the singers confidence growing, in the existence of God's Kingdom, after each verse. With that said the piece starts quietly, almost being heard from a distance. The refrain lyrics speak to the hope that we carry for God's kingdom while the verses speak to God and Jesus in a more intimate way. The bridge speaks to the strength of the Kingdom and then leads back to the opening refrain, now in double forte. The high point in the piece is reached where volume, emotion and a significant ritard occur at the phrase “we'll be together”. From there the piece decreases in volume ending in a quiet confidence repeating “No end, no end, no end”.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019363 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 15 pages. Kevin Longley #6322995. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019363). We Have A Friend, Church Anthem for Soloists, SATB and Piano composed in 2017. Inspiration Each year Fall and Winter bring an end to the growing season ushering in a dormant period within the seasonal cycle. Spring and Summer follow with new life and a time when we can again enjoy nature at its fullest. Our own lives mirror similar cycles; sometimes we are faced with events bringing us sadness and despair and other times peace and joy. In the end Jesus and God's great love are our Spring and Summer. This piece attempts to portray this contrast, comparing the seasons to our own lives and reminding us that in the end We Have A Friend who helps us. The Music The piece begins with soloists portraying the seasons of the year and how they relate to our lives. A transition then occurs where we're reminded that when we are down and out, and we need a helping hand, we have a friend in the Lord Jesus.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019370 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Kevin Longley #6532899. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019370). Bring His LoveInspiration (below is a note I sent to my sister) Hi Karen! In the fall of last year I started working on a new church anthem for FUMC. Over the years your choir has sung several pieces of mine; so I felt I should do something in return. I quickly got an idea for the music only (sometimes I will get some lyric ideas also, but didn't this time.) By the first of the year I had the basic structure sketched out on paper but then put it aside for Easter Rehearsals. When the pandemic stopped all church choirs I returned to the music and by early May had the score in the computer, close to completion. At that point I still didn't have any lyrics but began feeling that it should be about God's creation. All I could envision was a singer with his arms stretched out to the sun, the ocean, the moon, etc. while singing this piece. So I started searching for a possible prayer that might fit and came upon Canticle of the Son. As I read it through I liked the structure and began sketching out the lyrics. I couldn't help but wonder what our response should be to God's creation. How should we thank him or praise him or take care of it? I then turned my thoughts to FUMC and considered this - what phrase would sum up this churches mission? I almost immediately got Bring His Love. From there the balance of the lyrics fell into place. So attached is the recording and the music. I have no expectations but hope you and the choir enjoy the music. The Music The piece starts with 16th note broken chords in the upper register of the piano which lead to the opening theme. A tenor soloist begins by singing God's praises for all he has given us; ending with the thought How can we thank such kindness?; The answer Bring His Love the B section. At its conclusion we are returned to the opening theme, this time sung by the choir which again leads us to the same questionHow can we thank such kindness?, The answer Bring His Love the B section. A C section is then introduced with a change to a more beat driven accompaniment with the vocals alternating between the upper and lower voices. A return to the opening theme, with minimal chordal accompaniment, features the original soloist but then adds a second voice leading to a duet and a return to the broken chord accompaniment.. Finally the B section,Bring His Love is repeated and concludes in a rousing fashion.. Program Notes The piece could work very well for Earth Day celebrations.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019365 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 10 pages. Kevin Longley #6344809. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019365). With My HeartInspiration In 2012 my wife suggested we attend a church service at a Catholic church in town called Holy Cross. It was unclear as to where this came from; my wife has never been one to attend church services. I agreed though I was puzzled. On our first attendance what caught my ear was the beautiful sounds coming from the choir. There was a choir director playing the piano and singing soprano, one alto, one tenor and one bass. They sounded quite good especially the director; she had studied at Julliard and there were several other choir members who were trained musicians. It was only a few months later that I found myself singing with the choir during lent. From this experience was born With All My Heart, written for the Holy Cross choir. The Music The music is upbeat, contemporary, with lyrics modified from Psalm 103. Completed in 2013, it was my first church piece in a dozen years. A simple structure of ABABCB with a soloist for the C section. Program Notes I thank God for leading my wife to this church as it lead to my resumption of singing for the Lord and continued composing of church music to this day in 2021.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019364 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Easter,Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Kevin Longley #6322997. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019364). Living, Springs Of Living Water Church Anthem for SATB and Piano composed in 2014. Inspiration While attending Easter Church Service in 2014 I suddenly got the idea for this piece. Throughout the service I kept humming the melody to myself so I wouldn't forget it. By the time I got home I had the entire piece worked out. I quickly wrote it down and within a couple of weeks had the basic structure created. It's rare that this occurs for me but is a testament to the inspiration of God during Easter. The style of the music is somewhat impressionistic with a flowing nature that brings peace to the listener. The lyrics are all biblical; slightly modified. The Music Impressionistic in nature it starts with a gently flowing accompaniment followed by unison voices quietly speaking of the Living Water. After the initial A section the accompaniment changes into a more static but moving style as the lyrics speak to our belief and our needs. This is followed by a dramatic transition to the opening theme now embellished with a sort of question answer back and forth between the words Living and Water with the answer always resolving to the latter word. The piece quietly ends as it began. I will always remember the Easter of 2014 for Gods inspiration that created this piece.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019372 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Easter,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Kevin Longley #6550433. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019372). Where Is JesusInspiration January 1st, 2021 was the start of my official retirement from a wonderful company that I had been employed at for 40+ years, Cirtronics Corporation. Where Is Jesus was my first retirement music so to speak. A 2 measure musical idea came to me in early January. Several weeks later I had the overall structure completed and started inputting the score into my music program. At this point I had no lyrical ideas, however with Easter approaching it occurred to me that the musics dramatic content leaned heavily towards Good Friday, in spirit. As I pondered that, I couldn't help but wonder what the disciples thought when Jesus was taken. Certainly they would question where he was, question what had happened. Thus was born Where is Jesus with the lyrical content asking and then answering. The Music The music is comprised of an A section which begins with the Tenors and Altos singing Where Is Jesus. The choir then responds (in chronological order, as recorded in the Gospels ) with lyrics that describe the brutality that Jesus endured. Here the weight of what has occurred is felt with the lyrics and music evoking great emotion. The B section follows; a retrospective look back sung by the soloist, stating that all had transpired as foretold, or as stated, by Jesus and the prophets. A C section is then introduced which contains the hope then, and the crux now, of our faith deaths chain cannot have its reign, he will rise, he will rise. After a short piano interlude we are returned to the A section, now modulated to a higher key; here the most emotional section of the music is felt with the raw truth of what has happened. He is nailed to the cross, he has died, we are lost. The piece then ends as it started Where Is Jesus, to be answered three days later.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019367 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Holiday,Sacred. Octavo. 19 pages. Kevin Longley #6348427. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019367). In The Goodness Of God Inspiration Composed in June of 2015, I wrote the music without any thought as to what the lyrical idea would be. The entire piece is in a style that I typically don't compose in but I felt the melody had a certain appeal to it. Once the music was completed I began contemplating the goodness of god and what he has done for us. From there I decided the A section would be about his goodness followed by a section which would contain examples of his goodness. All in all I was pleased with the result and the effort I made with the singing. I especially enjoyed writing the flute part being inspired by a friend (Bob) who plays every Sunday at church. The Music A simple ABABA structure with traditional harmony and flute added for the last A section.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019368 Composed by Kevin Longley. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. Kevin Longley #6511323. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1019368). InspirationAs a follow up to a previous piece Oh Holy Spirit I decided to set music to another prayer, this time by Saint Columba. During the composing of the music my mother was sick in a nursing home with dementia and copd. My Mom always spoke of going on adventures and journeys; this prayer in many ways reflected her faith so it seemed fitting to write the music around the theme of Journey On My Way with My Way reflecting Gods way. By the time the piece was finished she had passed away. I sang the piece at her funeral commemorating her new adventure and journey in the presence of God. The Music A simple melody in the spirit of the great shaker hymn Simple Gifts. The A section of the music represents a stanza in the prayer which is then followed by a short B section where God reminds us to Journey On, Journey On My Way. The first AA sections are sung by a soloists, followed by the entire choir and then concluding in a bravura section featuring 2 tenors.

Inspiration Each of us, throughout our lives, are faced with choices where the path forward is unclear. Where the decision maybe a crossroad for our lives. Who can guide us? Who should we turn to? Jesus said I Am The Way? The Music A rousing church anthem that begins with the Tenor Soloist searching for answers. Presented with a difficult choice he asks Jesus what should I do now?, who will be my guide?. The choir responds with I Am The Way, offering the response in a polyphonic round, so to speak. Once completed, the opening melody returns sung by the choir followed by a repeat of the chorus.
