Commissioned for Acappellago's March 2018 concert The Wonderful World of Color. What is Pink?, is a whimsical poem by Victorian English poet Christina Rossetti. Says the composer, Each of the colors mentioned seemed to demand its own musical expression. The result is a suite of eight micro-movements, each in its own style and key. Red is in the key of C, orange in D, yellow in E, etc. Pink, a color not in the spectrum, is in E-flat, evoking warmth and sweetness, and white is written with stark octaves and tone clusters that include every note in the scale.
