Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.931836 Composed by Nathan Petitpas - Dots and Beams. Instructional. Octavo. 137 pages. Dots and Beams #4776187. Published by Dots and Beams (A0.931836). This collection presents its user with a series of increasingly difficult rhythms on a single pitch. The rhythmic material in this series is organized into 10 difficulty levels. Each difficulty level contains four exercises in each of the following time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8. This gives exercises in 2, 3, and 4 beats per bar in both simple and compound meters. The first two exercises of each time signature have no ties while the remaining two exercises in each time signature include ties. In Book 1 of this series you’ll find difficulty levels 1 to 5, while Book 2 completes the set with levels 6 to 10. The exercises in this collection are intentionally random and difficult to internalize. They don’t follow any predictable or standard groove pattern, but instead are random successions of eighth- and sixteenth-note groupings within the prescribed difficulty level. In keeping the rhythmic material as unpredictable as possible the door is left open for the materials to be used in conjunction with any number of exercises, while forcing the user to process every rhythm as its own event without relying on pattern recognition to help in identifying the rhythms. To curate the difficulty of rhythm in as objective a way as possible I looked at all of the possible eighth-note and sixteenth-note groupings within the basic unit of one beat. Each difficulty level builds on the exercises of the previous by adding groupings that are slightly more conceptually challenging. Difficulty Level 9 contains all possible groupings, while Level 10 focuses on the more challenging groupings by omitting easy ones. Some suggestions for how to use this book include: Practice sight-reading. When doing so it is encouraged to cycle through the exercises quickly rather than dwelling on a particular exercise for a long period of time. The goal in practising sight-reading is not to learn the material but to develop the skill of reading new material. Use a metronome! The most important thing you can do with this material is learn how to read these rhythms and play them in time. Advanced metronome work: Place the metronome click on weak beats. With the metronome clicking only on the beat you run the risk of relying on the metronome to give you the time. Placing the metronome click on non-strong beats forces you to take responsibility for the time. For example, instead of putting the metronome click on each quarter-note in 4/4, play the exercise with the metronome giving the second eighth note of each beat, or the last sixteenth note, or beats 2 and 4, or only the downbeat of each bar. Be creative with this one! The possibilities are limitless. Develop independence between hands by playing a repeating pattern in one hand while reading an exercise in the other. Expand on this by adding patterns in hands and feet while reading a rhythm with a remaining limb. This is a great exercise for drummers and percussionists but any instrumentalist could benefit from coordination practice. Use these rhythms to practice scales. Instead of playing scales in straight sixteenth-notes, try playing them in the rhythms given in these exercises. Write in sticking patterns, dynamics, accents, phrase marks, or other articulations for you or your students to practice. If you’re not happy with the ties I included, feel free to add some of your own. Combine the above exercises in any way that you think will be beneficial to your practice. As with any of the Dots and Beams books, the uses for this particular collection are limited only by the imagination of the musician using it. I encourage anybody using this book to find as many uses for these exerci.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841250 Composed by Chris Gordon. Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3029087. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841250). A setting of a very powerful poem by English poet, Ted Hughes, about the onset of autumn in an English (Yorkshire) garden and the surrounding countryside.  It is full of pathos and passion, harmony and dissonance, chaos and peace - just like English weather! This is a very individual and innovative choral setting of Hughes' poem which is, itself, rich in 'meaty' metaphor and colour - and the composer is a vegetarian! It evokes a savage Nature within a savage landscape where humans and animals compete for space and for food. It is October, the fields and woods and gardens of rural Yorkshire are readying themselves for the cold and desolation (and despair) of winter which isn't far away in time. 'A glass, half-filled with wine, left out(side) To the dark heaven all night, by dawn Has dreamed a premonition of ice across its eye as if the ice-age had begun its heave.'   That is only two and a half stanzas but you see from these lines that there are veiled threats of (Nature's) violence in the heavy tread of the poet's slowly-building angst over what is happening in the surrounding countryside - and his fear grows, and his awe grows, with every line. There is even fear underlining the very last line: 'And now it is about to start.' Winter is creeping closer and closer towards the house and it will not be pleasant to experience!I have tried to instil a little of this in the music which keeps skidding from consonance to dissonance and back to consonance. Sometimes the dissonance piles up, like snow driven by the wind piles up into deep banks; sometimes the music relaxes into stillness and calm (painted in tonal music) like a crisp, mild late autumn or early winter's day when the sun warms the landscape and life appears bearable, tolerable. I hope this adds to the song's 'charm'. It wasn't easy to write: sometimes the right music was elusive. The music ends with the word 'October' repeated three times, with voices overlapping in a little canon. This conjures up the wistful feelings of the poet as he looks out onto a peaceful scene, soon to be filled with all manner of 'natural violence', while his inner peace will soon be shattered by the mayhem about to be unleashed around him.Setting Ted Hughes is no easy task. It is for choirs and choirmasters to judge if I have succeeded in conveying the 'sense and sensibility' of a classic 20th century English poem. The price is for one copy: please purchase a sufficient number of scores if you intend to perform this work. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.535376). Gather Us In is an excerpt from Undelivered, a cantata written about the speech that John F. Kennedy never gaev in Dallas in November, 1963. In this piece for chorus and piano, Suzanne Calvin adapted this text from the Oxford Book of Prayer originally by G.D. Matheson (1842-1906). The work is suitable for both religious services and concert performances. Gather us in, Thou love that fillest all;Gather our rival faiths within thy fold.Rend each man’s temple-veil and bid it fall,That we may know that Thou hast been of old;Gather us in.Gather us in: we worship only Thee;In varied names we stretch a common hand;In diverse forms a common soul we see;In many ships we seek one spirit-land;Gather us in.Each one sees one colour of thy rainbow-light,Each looks upon one tint and calls it heaven;Thou art the fullness of our partial sight; We are not perfect till we find the seven;Gather us in.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349490 By Sam Smith. By Ed Sheeran, Fred Gibson, James Napier, Johnny McDaid, Samuel Frederick Smith, and Steve Mac. Arranged by Jacob Klingsten. 21st Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Singer/Songwriter. 16 pages. Jacob Klingsten #934182. Published by Jacob Klingsten (A0.1349490). Who We Love by Sam Smith is a moving ballad that has beautiful harmonic integrity. This arrangement is for average- to larger-sized SATB a cappella groups, and sits at a intermediate-advanced difficulty for high school/collegiate groups. This arrangement is similarly for the a cappella group looking to explore cluster chords while fulfilling a slow, but moving ballad slot for your song set. While there isn’t a vocal percussionist part in the score, there is a slight amount of body percussion involved in the second verse, which can be replaced by a vocal percussionist if desired. This arrangement features incredible harmonies, including many cluster chords that sound full and rich; these cluster chords are often met with two- and occasionally three-part splits within each voice part, which makes it crucial for each part to be solid. If your group does not have enough members to satisfy the three-part splits, one of the notes can be omitted for a similar sounding product. Additionally, there are two solo opportunities featured, each with the exact same range. If only one solo is desired, the soloist can simply follow the melody. Finally, this arrangement also has a unique ending -- instead of ending on the four (IV) chord, like in the original recording, the final progression resolves to the tonic with a tear-jerking minor four (iv) to one (I).Ā Additional Details: Key: B major 16 Pages Length: 2m 50s Ranges: Solos 1/2: F#3-G#5 Soprano: C#4-D#5 Alto: A#3-F#4 Tenor: F#3-C#4 Bass: F#2-F#3 (optional notes between B1 and E#2) If you would like the score changed to fit your ensemble's needs, the practice tracks to this piece once purchased, or if you are looking to have a new arrangement commissioned for your ensemble, please let Jacob Klingsten, the arranger, know at jacobkarranging@gmail.com. He will change the score to your needs (within reason) and provide practice tracks at no additional charge to your purchase, and he typically charges $50-75 per commissioned arrangement. Jacob would love to work with you and your ensemble!

I HAVE RIDDEN THE WINGS OF THE DAWNI have ridden the wings of the dawn looking for a place to lie my heart to rest, flying over seas and hills I found your splendid home. How could I explain what I felt when I saw your light, when I heard you calling my poor self. I feel your spirit looking after my lonely soul, I know your head is placed on my troubled head; I hear your voice: it's as sweet as a dream. Please don't let me lose my way hold me within your light. How could I close my heart to your blessed charity? Stars and skies tell me of your loving harmony. I see your love in the brightness of the moon; darkness will fade away the sun will shine over me.
