Song of the Autumn Fog. Men and Bass Voices Karaoke in 3 languages. It used cello as the main instrument. The speed is slower than the piano version. English translation: Autumn Fog by Johnson Gao White curtains are covering the blue hills afar. Crickets are singing in the green bed near. The stony houses are dimly hidden in fragrant woods. Blurred morning glory flowers are dotting the window frames. The vague life contains hardships and dangers. The morning disaster and the evening luck were preset by the heaven. Opportunities only favor to those who can grasp her. When the haze disappears, the sun looks shiner by the side of colorful clouds.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.973048 Composed by Francis Kayali. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 19 pages. Francis Kayali #6230277. Published by Francis Kayali (A0.973048). The Gift to Sing is a poem by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) published in 1917. The central theme of the text is one of optimism and resilience, using the power of song – meaning, more broadly, art or any kind of artful, heightened expression – to overcome adversity. Although the poem can be interpreted broadly to pertain to any kind of struggle, it is likely that Johnson, as a civil-rights activist was alluding more specifically to the oppression African-Americans in the United States, a struggle that continues to this day, in 2020. I composed this setting in September of 2020, right after the Black Lives Matter protests that took place that summer, so current events played a role in this interpretation on my part as well. If one reads the poem as pertaining the continued struggle of African Americans, some passages may come across as ambiguous. For instance, I brood not over the broken past should not be taken as suggesting that the horrors of the past should be forgotten, but as an injunction that the memory of these horrors should not discourage us or diminish our resolve to work toward overcoming the injustices. The musical inspiration for the opening of the piece comes from the song Lonesome Valley, which starts with a pentatonic melodic gesture. The pentatonic scale is often used in African American Spirituals, Christian hymns, and folksongs (e.g., Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Amazing Grace, How Can I Keep from Singing?, Red River Valley, Oh Shenandoah). The more rhythmic parts take inspiration from the African-American spiritual tradition, as found for instance in the choral music of Moses Hogan (1957-2003). Meanwhile, the tenor solo at the end, is intended to be very loud, bright, and without the pronounced vibrato one would find in a Western operatic style. This kind of bright and intense vocal sound is not unfamiliar to most listeners, who may have encountered it in places as varied as Sacred Harp singing, the opening of the Lion King soundtrack, or the Muslim call to prayer.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1450009 Composed by Erik Meyer. 21st Century,Children,Classical. 5 pages. Erik Meyer #942621. Published by Erik Meyer (A0.1450009). James Weldon Johnson's poem, The Gift to Sing, set for SATB choir by Erik MeyerThis piece encourages singers (especially younger ones) to find their own musical voice! It sets Johnson's introspective text about the quiet healing power of music, interspersed with sections for musical improvisation. Singers are welcome to create their own melody while the piano continues to play harmonically. Every voice's heartfelt contribution is valuable and beautiful.I wrote this piece because throughout my career as a choir director, many of my singers have been told me I can't really sing, or so-and-so told me not to sing loud because I'm not good, or I can't improvise, etc. I want this piece to help bring out everyone's voice - no matter what you have been told in the past, you CAN sing, and more than that, I bet you can improvise! I hope this setting will help singers love their voice.

SATB chorus - early intermediate - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGE259 Still, Still, Still with O Little Town of Bethlehem. Composed by Arr. Ruth Elaine Schram. Arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram. Christmas. Sing! With Opt. Handchimes. Octavo. 12 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGE259. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGE259). UPC: 749193027851.A memorable, pentatonic setting of selected lines from The Gift to Sing by James Weldon Johnson that speaks to the heart of all who find comfort and hope in song. Choirs, audiences and directors can all relate to the fact that there are times in life when blackening clouds seem to surround us. But the soaring melodic refrain reminds us that the magic way to turn the gloom to day is to sing and sing and sing. The accompaniment swells with wave-like motion under vocal lines that capture the joyful flight of hearts that take wing when we sing.
