Here arranged with a tongue in cheek sweet 3/4 choral intro later progressing into a 6/8 with angst and harmony 
There are humorous solos and plenty of room for dramatics. 
The song was performed by The Dropkick Murphys in the key of C. 
The arrnger chose G to allow 4 part harmony. 

Performance Suggestions: With a capable choir this could/should be performed a capella with interludes by a button accordion. 
A melodica, or flute/pennywhistle could be substituted for the accordion, or a piano/synth. 
On the recording there are also guitars and bodhráns - an Irish hand-drum.

Haiku is an entertaining work composed as a vocal studio for choir. The intention was to get the choirs to work on the pentatonic scales. In addition, the work is a vocal articulation exercise for singers. It consists of three brief parts, the first two with texts of two haiku and the third based on a Sansa-daiko dance, a dance for taiko drums that is learned by memorizing certain syllables that represent the text of the latter piece. The rhythm is literally that of the dance itself but that melodically is embedded in pentatonic scales just like the two previous pieces.

For the management of copyright the work is registered with the SGAE (Copyright Management Society of Spain) The score contains the data of the work and the composer for the management of Rights.

The author will appreciate being informed of any interpretation of the work.

Haiku es una obra divertida que compuse como un estudio vocal para coro. La intención era hacer que los coros trabajasen las escalas pentatónicas. Además la obra es un ejercicio de articulación vocal para los cantantes. Está formada por tres breves partes, las dos primeras con textos de dos haiku y la tercera basada en una danza Sansa-daiko, una danza para tambores taiko que se aprende mediante la memorización de determinadas sílabas que suponen el texto de esta última pieza. El ritmo es literalmente el de la propia danza pero que melódicamente está encajada en unas escalas pentatónicas igual que las dos piezas precedentes.

This wordless, instrumentally-inspired piece was composed in May 1979 by Gene Puerling and recorded by The Singers Unlimited on their album “A Cappella III� (and contained in the “Magic Voices� box set). This is NOT a transcription, but an authentic edition created from the handwritten manuscript of Gene Puerling. The influence of Chick Corea is found in the simple repetitive harmonies and driving rhythms. Two vocalists are featured melodically throughout the piece (with melodic line inspired by Chuck Mangione, thus the mash-up name in the title!), with up to six parts in the ensemble vocal parts. More accessible than many other Puerling charts, this piece gives lots of opportunity to work on ensemble tuning and rhythmic vitality! This is a great choral setting of the well-known pop song, by the Canadian pop band Barenaked Ladies. It is very rhythmic (with some challenging rhythms, as in the original) but relatively simple melodically and harmonically. It is a great piece to give your choir some practice in rhythmic work. The song has an upbeat message that is sure to resonate with both choir and audience!

This arrangement is for SATB (some divisi in the soprano part) with piano. The duration is just under 3 minutes. There are short optional solos in the middle of the piece. The recording here is a MIDI file, but you can easily find the song on YouTube.

SATB a capella. A chorale benediction. Duration: 1:30. I composed this choral benediction for a collegiate commencement ceremony. Like a Renaissance madrigal, this piece abounds with word painting. For instance, the opening words are derived from James 1:17 and melodically reflect the Father’s light coming down from above. The harmony of the second phrase turns constraining when quoting 2 Corinthians 5:14 concerning the love of Christ, and, in the third phrase, the voices’ movements quicken at mention of the Spirit's moving. The doxological statement God receive the glory appears three times to honor the Trinity, and, finally, the lyrics ’til He calls you home signal the return of the home key to conclude the benediction.
