Composed by Latin Christmas Hymn (1710). Arranged by Joseph Pugh. A Cappella,Classical,Concert,Sacred,Standards. Octavo. 14 pages. Joseph Pugh #6321809. Published by Joseph Pugh (A0.855158).

O come, O come, Emmanuel (Latin: Veni, veni, Emmanuel) is a Christian hymn for Advent and Christmas. The text was originally written in Latin. It is a metrical paraphrase of the O Antiphons, a series of plainchant antiphons attached to the Magnificat at Vespers over the final days before Christmas. The hymn has its origins over 1,200 years ago in monastic life in the 8th or 9th century. Seven days before Christmas Eve monasteries would sing the O antiphons in anticipation of Christmas Eve when the eighth antiphon, O Virgo virginum (O Virgin of virgins) would be sung before and after Mary’s canticle, the Magnificat (Luke 1:46b-55). The Latin metrical form of the hymn was composed as early as the 12th century.
This is the SATB arrangement by, Joseph Pugh for acapella choir.

Composed by Maria Lord-Kniveton. Christian,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. MaLoMaLo Press #5710935. Published by MaLoMaLo Press (A0.1008943).

God's Mercy and Truth works well for an SATB choral ensemble of any size. The piece can help high school students or a church choir gain metric competence by learning to change between compound and simple meters at formal sections. The text for this piece comes from Psalm 117. Liturgical congregations would appreciate this piece most during Epiphany, Easter, Pentecost, or ordinary time. Non-liturgical churches would enjoy this piece any time an acclamation of praise seems appropriate. To learn more about the composer and her other works, visit marialordknivetonmusic.com.

O Sacrum Convivium provides a brief meditation on the eucharist with musical substance that is appropriate both for the context of a church service and for a concert hall. Highly skilled groups would enjoy the beautiful simplicity of the work, while this same simplicity renders the piece attainable for church choirs with limited forces. The metre of the piece is driven by the text setting as it would have been in chant, so the resulting metric modulations feel natural rather than abrupt and unexpected. This piece features a brief and simple female solo. Language: Latin. Duration: 3:30 minutes.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit,

incididunt ut labore et dolore magna umbra.

Nulla sed leo. Nullam sed purus. Nulla vitae diam sapien. Nulla gravida pretium magna.

Tellus, ventus et ignis. Verbum sapientes defendit.

The Lorem ipsum is a text in pseudo-Latin, loosely inspired in a writing of Cicero[1] and that since the XVI century is used in publishing as filler text. Today it is used with a similar function, in electronic documents or web design. There are several versions of this text (of variable length), all them used to begin in the same way (Lorem ipsum … elit) but goon in different fashions. Therefore, I also invented part of the text, taking care of the metric, structural parallelisms and some hidden allusion to popular music (Tellus, ventus et ignis is Earth, Wind and Fire). The last sentence has even some sense: Verbum sapientes defendit means that the word defends to those who know. In the coda, since it is vocally much more practical to finish in m than in t, I changed the last word: dolor sit ipsum, what carries the existentialist message that pain is oneself.

Musically, the form is a rondo, with an obsessive refrain (based on the sentence we are commenting) which reappears without modifications.

This piece was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 18, 19 and 20 May 2015 (as if from a handbook: one day the text, the following day the music and on the third one big adjustements and the definitive precisions). Lorem ipsum is dedicated to Gonzalo Martín Saldívar.

Premiere by the chamber choir Northern Spirit, conducted by Jaret Choolun, tenth year anniversary concert1 (19th November 2016) at the kleiner Saal of Die Glocke, Bremen, Germany. (https://www.northernspirit.de/kammerchor-bremen/jubilaeumskonzert-in-der-glocke/)

First performance in Latin America: Coro Estable Municipal de Tandil, conducted by Annele Moroder, during the opening concert of the Third Argentine Choral Congress and the First Latin American Choral Congress (Choral Art and Identity) on May 24, 2018 (at 8:15 PM) at the Tandil Museum of Fine Arts, Argentina (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uyp8F6qTqw).

Motette. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: choral score. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Duration 4 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q20511. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20511).

German • Latin.

This work with its calmly pleading character lives on the contrast between the freely metric, virtually Gregorian passages and the strict time-beating sections. It is especially in the 'Da pacem' call written in triplets that pressing, accelerating crescendos arise which can also be led into the forte excessively. The concluding Latin 'Da pacem' should then be sung in a deliberately introverted manner.

SKU: A0.892250

Composed by Stephen Jackson. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Octavo. 7 pages. Stephen Jackson #3575035. Published by Stephen Jackson (A0.892250).

This setting of Sara Teasdale's iconic poem (published in 1918) is perfect for groups from upper level high school mixed choirs to a professional ensembles. Generous voice leading, a thought provoking text, dynamic and timbral contrasts, rich harmonies and a luscious piano part make this a welcome addition to any concert program.  Metric changes, gentle syncopations and shifting harmonies make this an excellent teaching piece as well.  Duration - 3 minutes.

An interesting cross-curriculum opportunity exists in studying the Ray Bradbury short story by the same title, published in 1951. The plot is an excellent study of irony and contrasts markedly with the more direct intentions of Teasdale's poem.

Stephen Jackson's body of works includes pieces for solo voice, choral ensembles, solo piano, chamber music, a children's opera, and  several electro-acoustic suites for digital soundscape and solo instrument. Born in New Orleans, Jackson currently resides in El Paso, TX where the stunning desert landscapes and endless expanse of sky inform a love of broadly composed works for both sacred and secular performance.  .

Composed by Jonathan F Hellerman. Christian,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Sacred. Octavo. 4 pages. J. F. Hellerman #5719955. Published by J. F. Hellerman (A0.921801).

An expressive, lyrical setting of Psalm 23, using Sir Isaac Watts' beautiful metric translation. Three verses are included - the first in unison, the second in four parts (SATB), and the third in unison with descant. The melody is quickly accessible and the organ accompaniment gentle, making this piece appropriate for use in church or concert. Only two minutes in length, it is easily manageable by a small SATB choir.  Ideally accompanied by the organ, it is playable on the piano also.
