Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.898891 Composed by Tyler Justin Hughes. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. Tyler Justin Hughes #5989465. Published by Tyler Justin Hughes (A0.898891). Yesterday and To-morrow is both reflective and nostalgic in its meaning. The music’s text is by poet Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872 - 1905). The poem, Yesterday and To-morrow, first appeared in Dunbar’s collection of poems, Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadows, in 1905. The music reflects the back and forth of fondly remembering and current harsh reality. The music also explores a variety of musical textures, from unison lines to aleatoric passages. This piece is well suited for intermediate singers looking for an achievable challenge.

Published by S. G. Potts (A0.1041040). Ring Out, Ye Bells! Ā is a Christmas Carol scored for SATB a cappella choir and is based on the text: 'Christmas Carol' by Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906).The work is written in a tuneful and commercial traditional style (with just an ever so slight nod to 'O Come, all Ye Faithful' in the intro). It is scored at an intermediate performer’s level. After the short tutti introduction, the main theme is presented solely by unison sopranos, the carol then builds gradually into a full harmonic structure with occasional divisions in some of the voices. The mp3 audio recording is a piano version to aid with rehearsals (only). This carol is both a joy to perform and to listen to!

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1332087 Composed by Colin Eatock. A Cappella,Classical. 40 pages. Colin Eatock Music #918864. Published by Colin Eatock Music (A0.1332087). A cappella SATB choir/quartet; ca. 9 min.The composer writes: A few years before I composed these settings by three American poets, I composed my Four Elizabethan Songs About Love (2016-2018). The texts I’ve used in Three American Poems About Love (2020) bring us forward in time about three centuries, and transpose the location from England to the USA. However, like the poems in the Elizabethan set, the texts in my American set are not all conventional love songs. The first, ā€œInvitation to Loveā€ (by Paul Laurence Dunbar) is a glowing reflection on the nature of love itself, rather than an expression of love directed towards a specific other. The second, ā€œSpring Nightā€ (by Sara Teasdale) is a wistful reflection on lovelessness, despite the consolations of beauty. Only the third, ā€œOur Loveā€ (by James Russell Lowell) is a love song in the conventional sense: a profession of enduring love between two people.

Schirmer Music Company - Digital #7149-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.7149-E). English. Why the Caged Bird Sings for SATB chorus and piano, is a setting of Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, Sympathy. His poem speaks through poetic metaphor of the suffering of repression. It inspires us to lift up our voices and to speak out in sympathy. Author Maya Angelou used the line, ā€œI know why the caged bird singsā€ as the title of her autobiographical novel, and also of her own poem of the same name.Commissioned by the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, this setting is energetic and colorful, with skillful painting of the text and a deft piano accompaniment which moves things along without obscuring the vocal writing. Duration: 4:45.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942966 Composed by Geoffrey Peterson. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 28 pages. Geoffrey Peterson #5997509. Published by Geoffrey Peterson (A0.942966). The title of the cantata was borrowed from the book The Living Cathedral: St John the Divine: A History and Guide. The following statement by St John the Divine expresses some of my motivation for composing it:St John the Divine embraces a community that extends beyond the Episcopal Church to include people of many faiths and cultures here in New York City…The Cathedral is a living place of worship built on a foundation of purpose and inspiration…Since its founding in 1893, the Cathedral has stood as a ā€˜house of prayer for all nations,’ inspired by the wave of immigration that took place over the last four decades of the 19th century. The values of inclusion and community have remained integral to the Cathedral and all who visit. It is my hope, not only for communities of faith, but for all people to strive and achieve the human ideals of tolerance, understanding and kindness. Movements: I. Alleluia II. Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace (Prayer of Saint Francis) III. Laudate Dominum (Psalm 149,150) IV. Lead gently, Lord, and slow (Paul Laurence Dunbar) V. The spacious firmament on high (Psalm 19, Joseph Addison) *Organ and string parts available for sale separately.
