An excellent addition to an Early Winter concert for diverse audiences, and appropriate for church or school. With a rhythm using 8th notes and 16th notes the audience will imagine brilliant bells ringing as shoppers rush up and down the streets, or as shepherds run to worship the Christ child. The limited range and repeated rhythmical phrases makes this arrangement appropriate for inexperienced singers. The pathos of the words is echoed in the minor mode, even the mood of the piece. The drama of the final ending makes it perfect to close the first half of a concert. Appropriate for Christian or Hebrew worship, but the lyrics are generic enough to use for school choirs as well. (Its about SINGING!) The trumpet and flute parts could be played on synthesizer if no live musicians are available. The hammer dulcimer part can be covered by the piano, but the hammer dulcimer is a very popular folk instrument, players can be found in almost every community that can handle this.
