Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.837496 Composed by Martin Rinkart. Arranged by Brett L. Wery. Holiday,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 44 pages. Sonata Grendel Publishing #5753937. Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.837496). SET B Conductor’s Score,Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, Horn in F, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, SATB Choir/Organ Now Thank We All Our God was originally written ca. 1636 by Protestant minister, Martin Rinkart. The melody is attributed to Lutheran Hymnist, Johann CrĂĽger and was used in three J.S. Bach chorales but the most common version we hear today was harmonized by Felix Mendelssohn in 1840. Martin Rinkart was a deacon in Eisleben Germany where he served during the Thirty Years’ War. The city of Eisleben and Rinkart’s own home became a sanctuary for political refugees during the war. The resulting overcrowding in the walled city resulted in a horrible plague which hit its peak in 1637. Rinkart was the only surviving pastor in the city and before the plague was over he would preside over 4000 funerals include that of his own wife. Despite this, it was during this time that he wrote Now thank we all our God. This new setting of Now Thank We All Our God draws on Rinkart’s fierce spirit of optimism and faith in a time of desolation and despair. To paint the picture of the circumstances in which Rinkart wrote the hymn, this setting opens with the text from Psalm 13: How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? The setting turns quickly, in an act of disruptive optimism and faith, to a lopsided dance of joy. In the end, the setting returns to the opening question  of Psalm 13, How long? only to be answered by Rinkart’s declaration, Gifts of love today!

SATB Chorus, Piano, Flute, Oboe - Digital Download SKU: IZ.VMW221V Composed by Robert M. Shearn. Octavo. 15 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #VMW221V. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.VMW221V). 9 x 12 inches.“The Galaxies is a grand orchestral composition in A minor written for string orchestra, mixing classical and modern musical writing styles. This piece tells the story of three young American astronauts who went up to space to discover the galaxies and life in outer space. They found out things that no one has ever thought of, the gleams and sophistication, the immense beauty that defies our human knowledge on space. This piece is divided into three parts, namely Adagietto, Maestoso and Grandioso. Adagietto represents the mysteriousness of space and the awe they felt as they took their first glance into the surreal world of fantasies and imaginations.Maestoso is the central part of the piece, where the main theme resembles the exquisitely beautiful galaxies in outer space. Over several years, they found a way to communicate with the extra-terrestrial and developed a mutual understanding. This part contains various majestically glorious melodies, symbolising the visions of humanity. They took a giant leap of faith for this nearly impossible mission to perceive what humankind can never envision. Grandioso signifies the lavish natural architectures that filled the galaxies and the monumental bonding between humans and aliens. As the friendship blossomed, they further explored the world that has been an enigma for centuries. Before the piece ends, the main theme is delivered again. This time, it is an emotional farewell as these astronauts return to Earth and cannot wait to share information that will revolutionise astrophysics forever.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.900166 By Sarah Labrie, Conductor - Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop, Sarteano, Italy. By Mary Ellen Haupert. Easter,Sacred,Spiritual. 5 pages. Mary Ellen Haupert #3031789. Published by Mary Ellen Haupert (A0.900166). ILLUMINE LE TENEBRE (SSAATTBB) For Jean Saladino and the Viterbo University Concert Choir TRANSLATION of TEXT: Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out your holy and true command. Amen. - St. Francis of Assisi's Prayer before the Crucifix NOTES from the composer: One year ago, I had the privilege of participating in the Leadership Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome (2011) sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Franciscan Healthcare, and Viterbo University.  I carried with me, not only the responsibility of bringing back a hint of Francis’ lived experience to my students, but the desire to compose something wholly Franciscan. The San Damiano Cross is one of the most distinctive Franciscan images we have on campus.  The gentle Jesus that hangs on this 12th-century icon will forever be linked to Francis’ dramatic step from citizen to sainthood-welcoming his earnest prayer to enlighten the darkness of his heart.  The Basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi holds both the San Damiano Cross and the remains of his confidante, St. Clare.  It seemed a good place to start getting serious. Copying the prayer in at least six different languages, I tucked it away in my travel books, not digging it out again until the following summer (2012).  The opening phrases in the piece came easily enough (Altissimo, glorioso Dio), but I stumbled through a handful of ideas before coming up with the mantra (illumine le tenebre…).  It made sense that Francis would joyfully address God singing forte (Altissimo and Signore), while quietly chanting his humble prayers for faith, hope, charity, and knowledge. The friendship between Francis and Clare can’t be missed, not only in the intermingling of SATB voices, but in the setting of che faccia lo tuo santo e verace comadamento (that I may carry out your holy and true command).  The phrase is sung only once by the women before the final return of the illumine chant (which is repeated throughout by the men).  Maybe I chanced on weaving some of Clare’s courage with Francis’ persistence into Illumina le tenebre, all while trying to compose something wholly Franciscan?   ---Mary Ellen Haupert, October 2012.
