Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576139 Composed by Carroll O'Daly. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Contemporary,Folk,World. Octavo. 3 pages. David Warin Solomons #2031597. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576139). Choral arrangement of Robin Adair, with some interesting harmonies. Audio sample sung (multitrack and transposed down a little) by the composer The original tune was composed with the words Eibhlin a Ruin (Ellen Aroon or Eileen Aroon) by the Irish bard Carroll O'Daly (14th Century), although it was later attributed to the 18th century Irish composer Charles Coffey (this was presumably an arrangement of the original). The words of Robin Adair itself are understood to be by Lady Caroline Keppel, who was in love with a surgeon by that name. (This seems more likely than the theory that Robert Burns wrote it, although Burns certainly knew Keppel's lyrics and made his own parodies upon the words). Some later versions of the melody contain Scotch snaps but this version follows the simplest melodic line, without the Scotch snaps - which may have been closer to O'Daly's original tune - and with quite romantic choral harmonies.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.953941 Composed by Andrew J. Bolye. Arranged by Lyrical Publishing. Celtic,Folk,World. Octavo. 9 pages. Lyrical Publishing #2897719. Published by Lyrical Publishing (A0.953941). Will Ye Go to the Indies:  As a young man Scotland’s great poet, Robert Burns, fell in love with a girl he called Highland Mary, and persuaded her to emigrate with him to the West Indies. In the text of this song we hear the poem he wrote about those huge decisions. Tragically, Mary died before they could start their life together. Many years later, in 1792, Burns set the poem to an old Scottish folk song. To his publisher he explained: You must know, that all my earlier love-songs were the breathings of ardent Passion; and tho’ it might have been easy in aftertimes to have given them a polish, yet that polish would have defaced the legend of my heart.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.776998 Composed by Jon Arterton. Contemporary. Octavo. 33 pages. Jon Arterton #34815. Published by Jon Arterton (A0.776998). This dramatic 12-minute piece captures the agony and brutality of the First World War. It begins with a gentle setting of Robert Burns' famous poem Red, Red Rose. The lyrical sounds of the bucolic countryside gradually give way to the electrifying poetry of First World War poet Wilfred Owen. The horrors of gas warfare are brought to life with rhythmic intensity and passion. The title Dulce et Decorum Est is the old lie according to Owen: It is sweet and right to die for your country. The piece ends with a comforting chorale-like setting of the composer's words: Light eternal shines all around them, resting forever, finally at rest. A performance of the piece with accompanying images can be seen on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z-PPk6uXAI. Scored for SATB chorus, narrator, piano/organ, flute, trumpet, timpani/chime and strings. Full Score. Chorus with piano reduction (JA221) and parts (JA223) also available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z-PPk6uXAI&t=206s.
