La Complainte de la Butte was originally composed for the soundtrack of the French-Italian movie Cancan (1954) by Georges van Parys with lyrics by Jean Renoir (second son of French Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir). It later was covered by Rufus Wainwright in the film Moulin Rouge (2001). It has become a classic of French Song. This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.
