Salmo 8 is my homage to creation.  In my years as Assistant Conductor and Pianist for the National Choir in El Salvador, I enjoyed working and performing works like this one. I wrote this piece with tho main ideas in mind: first, to create with easy harmonies that could appeal to anybody and second to be able to create a work that can be performed in concert halls. Conductors and Choristers will find interesting (and challenging) rhythmic patterns that give freshness to the work and invites listeners to enjoy the music. Text is from the Bible. The work could be performed at churches and concert halls. The work is scored for SSAATTBB, Piano, and String Orchestra. This vocal score includes a piano reduction for rehearsal purposes.

Esta obra es mi humilde homenaje a la creación. La obra está escrita para coro mixto, piano y pequeña orquesta de cuerdas. En su sección inicial la obra presenta un patrón rítmico no convencional (métrica de 5/8) que de vez en cuando se intercala con métricas más tradicionales. La sección media es introducida por las cuerdas que de forma misteriosa nos introduce a una atmósfera de mayor contemplación. para luego regresar a la parte rítmica y recapitular el tema melódico inicial. El compositor escribe: En mis años como Pianista y director asistente del Coro Nacional de El Salvador disfruté mucho montar obras como la que usted disfrutará esta noche. Lo cierto es que el compositor ha querido buscar una obra que sea accesible y que tenga a la vez un carácter único, como las grandes maravillas de nuestro planeta y la naturaleza. Gustav Mahler (1860–1911) completed the composition of this work in 1901. The original version, scored for solo voice and chamber orchestra, is one of the Rückert-Lieder (Friedrich Rückert, poet [1788–1866]). Stanley M. Hoffman completed his arrangement for SATB chorus and piano in 2001.

Hoffman says of his arrangement: Rather than taking the easy way out by placing a pre-existing accompaniment from a piano/vocal score beneath the newly created alto, tenor, and bass choral parts (the soprano part retaining the original melody throughout), I went back to the orchestral score and created my own piano reduction. Bracketed items indicate editorial additions intended to make the arrangement more effective. The piece should be performed in a hushed manner throughout. This edition also includes a sensitively conceived English singing translation by Robert Schuneman.

In 2015, Stanley M. Hoffman inserted his choral arrangement into the original chamber orchestra score. Duration: 6:00.

This dramatic 12-minute piece captures the agony and brutality of the First World War. It begins with a gentle setting of Robert Burns' famous poem Red, Red Rose. The lyrical sounds of the bucolic countryside gradually give way to the electrifying poetry of First World War poet Wilfred Owen. The horrors of gas warfare are brought to life with rhythmic intensity and passion. The title Dulce et Decorum Est is the old lie according to Owen: It is sweet and right to die for your country. The piece ends with a comforting chorale-like setting of the composer's words: Light eternal shines all around them, resting forever, finally at rest.
