A new setting of the Roman Catholic Mass in English using the words of the Roman Missal published in 2010. This ecumenical offering from Seal Church is composed because of the composer's strong ties with, and ongoing affection for, the RC community in the UK. At least half of the music is adapted from the composer's Seal Communion Setting (also available on SMP) for the Church of England parish near Sevenoaks in the UK. It consists of six short settings, each with its own distinctive character within the whole of the Mass:

1. Lord have mercy, 2. Glory to God, 3. Holy, holy, holy, 4. We proclaim your death, 5. Great Amen, 6. Lamb of God

Although several of these are written for SATB choir, their use is intended to be flexible, with the congregation singing the main melody or soprano line, while a choir may join in with as many of the other lines are feel able to produce!

Naji Hakim, born in Beirut in 1955, is one of the most important organists and organ composers of today. He studied with Jean Langlais as well as at the Paris Conservatoire, was organist at Sacré-Coeur in Paris from 1985-93 and later succeeded Messiaen as organist at the Église de la Sainte Trinité. He gives concerts all over the world, is professor at the Conservatoire of Boulogne and visiting professor at the Royal Academy in London. 'Set me as a seal upon your heart' sets one of the best-known texts from King Solomon's Song to music. The expressive vocal setting for mixed a-cappella choir is suitable for sacred and secular concerts. Of the same piece, Hakim also composed a version for solo soprano and organ (ED 20808).

This arrangement should be performable by a high school choir, but can also be appreciated by a more advanced choir.

Willie Nelson's iconic song, made famous by Roy Orbison, was written about a disabled street vendor that would sell gift wrap, ribbons, and pencils during the holiday season. It was later embellished and published as a short story. It's a beautiful, yet somber song, that reminds us that not everyone is jolly during the Christmas season. This is a good piece for the middle of a concert to provide a contrast to the typical Christmas genre or to bring awareness and support to those that struggle during the season.

Pretty Paper is typically a simple country song with swinging 8ths, but I've arranged it with full harmonies and straight 8ths for a completely different feel. You could still perform it with swinging 8ths if you'd like more of the original character of the piece. I originally thought it would be an a Capella arrangement and arranged all of the voice parts first, but felt it needed a bit more rhythmic pull and added the piano. It could still be performed a Capella for a more simple, thoughtful performance.
