Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1273068 By Public Domain. By Public Domain. Arranged by Noemi Bretas. Country,Folk,Historic,Pop,Traditional. Octavo. 15 pages. Marcelo Borba #865257. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.1273068). Arrangement for 4 voices choir. Shosholoza is a popular South African folk song that has a rich history and cultural significance. The origins of the song can be traced back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the time of the South African gold and diamond mining boom. The word Shosholoza is believed to have been derived from the Ndebele and Zulu languages and translates roughly to go forward or make way for the next person. It was initially a call used by train drivers and mine workers to synchronize their movements while pushing and pulling railway cars or working in the mines. The song's lyrics and melody evolved over time through oral tradition, passed down among the workers as a form of communication, motivation, and solidarity. The rhythm and repetitive chanting helped the workers maintain a sense of unity and cooperation during physically demanding and often harsh conditions.During the era of racial segregation and oppression in South Africa, Shosholoza became an anthem of resilience and hope for the black South African population. It symbolized their spirit of endurance and unity in the face of adversity, and it came to be associated with the struggle against apartheid. With time, Shosholoza gained popularity beyond the confines of the mines and railway yards. It became a well-known folk song, performed by choirs, musicians, and cultural groups across South Africa and around the world. It embodies the spirit of ubuntu (the belief in the interconnectedness of all humanity) and has been used as a symbol of South African identity and pride. In modern times, Shosholoza continues to be celebrated as a cherished piece of South African musical heritage. It is often performed during sporting events, cultural festivals, and gatherings as a way to celebrate unity, strength, and resilience.Overall, Shosholoza remains a powerful reminder of South Africa's history, the struggles its people endured, and the enduring spirit of hope and solidarity that transcends adversity.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835452 Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452). A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, BourĆ©e, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below. The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra. In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers. The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!https://www.facebook.com/stuartbrownmusic/

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus divisi - Digital Download SKU: A0.1418462 Composed by Cassy Gress. 21st Century. 10 pages. Cassy Gress #1000029. Published by Cassy Gress (A0.1418462). On April 8, 2024, I had the privilege to be able to view a solar eclipse in totality. I'd previously seen one at around 99% totality, but 100% is a completely different experience. I periodically glanced at the sun in my protective glasses, watching the disc shrink down to nothing, not expecting much other than the absence of a sun. But I looked away for a moment, and my son suddenly cried, It's there!I turned and gasped: the sky was a flat twilight blue, and a crisp brilliant ring glowed in the sky, safe to view with the naked eye. The world was still, strangely silent, alien and new. We all tried to grab as many pictures as we could. After a few minutes, the moon continued its arc across the sky, and the sun's glare abruptly reappeared, already blinding even as a sliver. I can still see that ring in my mind's eye, fiercely burning, as if someone had literally cut a circle out of the sky and exposed another universe behind it.In this piece I tried to capture the growing ominous wonder of an eclipse approaching totality. While the 2024 eclipse was not visible in Russia, the Russian word for sun, солнце (solntse), has a lily-like fragility to it that the English equivalent does not. Various parts of the choir repeat the word throughout the piece, and the repeated ts and s sounds should create a percussive susurrance. Stagger breathing should be used throughout. Also repeated is the Russian word for moon, луна (luna). As the eclipse approaches that crystalline moment of totality, the moon becomes more and more prominent and the text more chantlike. The refrain, first sung by a solo bass at bar 7, and sung in variation by the other parts thereafter, is repeated in its original form once by the sopranos near the top of their range. This represents the sun in final desperate ecstasy, before it too collapses into the inevitability and madness of occultation. After an indefinite sudden pause, the shock of the moment, the choir reverently sings suscipe deprecationem nostram. Glorificamus te. As the moon frees the sun from its cold grip, the menace of the previous section threatens to return, but just as quickly fades, revealing once again солнце в небе (the sun in the sky).

Published by CƩsar Zumel (A0.939976). Around two minutes of music for saying the last bye, plenty of sorrow and hope. For church funerals at communio, or at the end of the ceremony. Affordable for SATB choir a bit experienced, really easy to describe and to show sorrow by your own voice. Contemporary music is used for showing sorrow but enough to be sung by a non profesional nor semi-profesional choir. The Canticum Zacchariae lyric is found in Luke (I, 67-79) and it is sung at the funeral. The deceased receives prayers and this song, accompanied by two candles and a cross. Just before Canticum Zacchariae it is sung Liberame Domine, eternal death, ... and In paradisum: deducant Angeli .... Canticum Zacchariae sums up the hope placed on eternal life and which Luke tells in his youth gospel of Jesus.
