Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835452 Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452). A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below. The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra. In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers. The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!https://www.facebook.com/stuartbrownmusic/

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1412170 By Stuart Brown. By Stuart Brown. Arranged by Stuart Brown. 21st Century,A Cappella,Christian,Easter. 8 pages. Stuart Brown Music #994410. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.1412170). A beautifully light and joyful original setting, in neo-Elizabethan style, of well-known words translated in 1708 by John Baptist Walsh from the hymn 'Surrexit Christus Hodie'. Ideally to be sung by four soloists (SATB) but would work when sung by any competent mixed choir. The composer writes: It was on Easter Sunday morning in 2024 that the idea of writing a new setting of these words came into my mind, as if fully formed. The actual composition took me no more than one hour ... and immediately it felt *right*. Certainly it puts a smile on my face every time I hear it!.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1167613 Composed by Stuart Richard Brown. Arranged by Stuart Richard Brown. Celtic,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Irish. Octavo. 36 pages. Stuart Brown Music #767979. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.1167613). Three short songs of varying difficulty, based upon verses from poems by Alfred, Lord Tennyson:1. Love is and was my Lord and King2. Of old sat Freedom on the heights3. Crossing the barThe three songs need not necessarily be performed together. Love is and was my Lord and King is a delightful miniature in neo-baroque style. It is relatively straightforward as long as the singers can keep up with the modulations. Crossing the bar is quiet and meditative, again relatively straightforward although it requires (ideally) basses able to sing down to a low D-flat. Of old sat Freedom on the heights is by far the most demanding of the three but also the most exhilarating if performed well, with a piano part that is cheerfully out of sync with the choir for much of the time.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835422 Composed by Stuart Brown. Contemporary,Sacred. 8 pages. Stuart Brown Music #9697. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835422). Possibly unique: an Easter (or more properly Good Friday) hymn for six-part choir, in which the choir is actually the accompaniment for a piano solo of almost hyponotic dissonance in comparison. The result of superimposing these elements is strangely beautiful. The composer offers the following commentary: I guess most people seeing a piece with a choir and a piano would think of it – not unreasonably – as a choir accompanied by a piano. This piece is subtly different: the way in which I can best explain what was in my mind when I composed it would be to describe it as a piano solo accompanied by choir. While the choir sings music that feels like a slow pavane the pianist plays a series of arpeggios and cluster chords around another relatively simple but unlinked melody. The combined effect is almost hypnotic and if the singers think of the pianist as their accompanist they will almost certainly lose the plot of what they are singing! On first hearing it may appear that the piano and the choir have little in common but the concept is simple enough. Both choir and pianist are meditating on the same theme, but coming at it from totally different directions. There is no formula to the way in which we approach the cross of Christ. We come as we are, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation, meeting at the foot of the cross. The juxtaposition of choir and piano represents that meeting and the cluster chords that the pianist plays reinforce a sense of brokenness that is essential to a proper understanding of the music. I have dedicated this to Canon Andrew White and the Christians of Iraq, knowing that their situation seems impossible in the face of the evil that walks that land, but trusting in the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ to do right even if from our earthly perspective we are unable to discern what right is.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835434 Composed by Stuart Brown. Arranged by SB VisionMusic. Christian,Christmas,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 6 pages. Stuart Brown Music #518793. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835434). The Boar's Head Carol was first published 1521 by Wynken de Worde in Christmasse Carolles. The original words, a mixture of middle English and Latin, are magnificent in context, but mean little to people today. In The Saviour is born this day I have written new words that communicate a meaningful message while still conveying a sense of 16th century majesty. In this way I hope that this beautiful and regal music may once again become relevant to our Christmases. The harmonies are my own, although I have retained some of the characteristics of early 16th century heraldic music.
