Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1204260 Composed by Colin Eatock. A Cappella,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 32 pages. Colin Eatock Music #802770. Published by Colin Eatock Music (A0.1204260). A cappella SATB choir; ca. 6 min.The composer writes: Amy Lowell (1874-1925) was born into a prosperous Massachusetts family. A poet, critic and biographer, she was a leading exponent of the imagist movement, and was for a time closely allied with Ezra Pound. Her obituary stated, She was upon the surface of things a Lowell, a New Englander and a spinster. But inside, everything was molten like the core of the earth.†In 1926, she was posthumously awarded a Pulitzer Prize. Some of Lowell’s poetry was written for or about the actress Ada Dwyer Russell, with whom Lowell shared a “Boston marriage†(a 19th-century euphemism for a lesbian relationship) for more than a decade. I have chosen three of Lowell’s love poems for this set of choral songs. All three are concise and emotionally intense; vivid yet elegant in their imagery.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.902077 Composed by African American Spiritual. Arranged by Becky Sun. Gospel,Spiritual. Octavo. 5 pages. Becky Sun #5287469. Published by Becky Sun (A0.902077). Many African American spirituals have dual meanings. On the surface, Wade in the Water is about Christian baptism or the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. Harriet Tubman used the song as a code to remind enslaved people who were escaping to get into a body of water when slavecatchers’ dogs were after them. God helps by troubling the water so the dogs would have an even harder time catching the escapees’ scent. The original verses are wonderful but rather opaque (by design), so I wrote two new verses to make the message and setting of this song more apparent for the modern audience.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240133 Composed by Debbie Allen. Children,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Folk,Historic. Octavo. 14 pages. Nottingham Scores #835514. Published by Nottingham Scores (A0.1240133). Mystery of the Hills is an S.A.T.B. choral work describing the wonder of the Flint Hills, a region in East Central Kansas.  I’m not a native Kansan, but whenever I drive through this area, I am enthralled by the infinite sense of expanse and gently rolling terrain. Geologists believe there was an inland seaway that covered central North America starting 290 million years ago. Over time, alternating layers of hard limestone and softer shale rocks formed. It is believed erosion caused the varied elevations of terrain, unique to the slopes of the Flint Hills. These surface layers of limestone and chert prevented the settler’s ability to farm, which in turn preserved the integrity of the soil. Today, the prairie grasses can reach 10 feet tall if not managed.  The rich grasses are prime for feeding livestock. This music attempts to provide images of traveling through the Flint Hills today, while imagining changes over eons of time, due to weather and eventually, human interaction.  Generally, the upper voices provide the imagery and some history, while the lower voices describe a bedrock foundation.  Describing the rock foundation found in the Flint Hills is also a metaphor for human strife and struggle as man, among living flora and fauna, interact with the area. The vocal ranges and harmonies are accessible for young ensembles, whether in development or with years of experience.

More information at https://glynlehmann.com/Space-RaceThe Apollo 11 mission was the culmination of years of dedication and experimentation in the attempt to land a man on the moon. This song traces the tense journey back home to Earth made by the Apollo 11 astronauts as they leave the moon's surface - ultimately returning as heroes. The subdued drama of the verses climaxes with the gospel-influenced triumph of the choruses.https://youtu.be/oAUjyzccdhMApollo 11 (Homecoming)Words by Phil Cummings, Music by Glyn LehmannVerse 1Time to leave Tranquillity BaseFor the finish line the end of the raceMoon-dusted suits, deep black skiesOn a dark horizon see Earth riseA cargo of rocks, soil and dustStrapped in the module, feel the thrustChorus 1 After days and days of being aloneThe astronauts were coming homeThey were coming home After days and days of being aloneThe astronauts were coming homeThey were coming home Verse 2The module falls, the angle is rightAnd the heat shield is burning brightInterludeRadio silence into the atmosphereNo voice of calm, no voices to hear Those that wait on the groundHold their breath, don’t make a soundThen from the silence a voice is clearCalling for the world to hearControl room erupts with shouts and cheersHigh in the sky the module appearsChorus 2This is the homecoming, this the homecomingThose brave men are coming, coming homeAfter days and days of being aloneThe astronauts were coming homeThey were coming home After days and days of being aloneThe astronauts were coming homeThey were coming home CodaHome, they were homeOur homeLyrics © 2018 Phil Cummings
