Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.829504 Composed by C. Held, Richard H. Neiderhiser. Arranged by Lyndell Leatherman. Sacred. Octavo. 1 pages. Leatherman Music Services #5775291. Published by Leatherman Music Services (A0.829504). From 1978 to 1992 I was honored to serve on staff with Dr. Richard H. Neiderhiser at the Grandview (Missouri) Church of the Nazarene. In addition to his impressive homiletic skills, he possessed a rich background in music and liturgy. Those were golden years as together we sought fresh expressions of worship. Every Advent season he would come up with a relatively obscure Advent hymn text and then use each stanza as the outline for that Sunday's sermon. And each Sunday we would start on stanza one and sing through the stanza of the day. Often he would write a new tune for the text; such is the case with Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord. With Dr. Neiderhiser’s blessing I offer it here for your consideration next Advent. The mp3 demo plays through the music twice. The purchase price allows you to duplicate as many copies as you need for your instrumental and vocal musicians.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.915680 Composed by Richard Joseph Barber. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 4 pages. Barber Music Company #3023247. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915680). Words by St. Ambrose of Milan (c340–397), tr. by John Henry Newman.Set to music and arranged by Richard Joseph Barber for Rev. Jason Parker, High Country Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, CO.Composer's note:This is a joyous call to prayer (especially morning prayer). The music reminds me of little children skipping with glee under a bright blue morning sky. It needs to be sung with joy in the Lord, Who hears us when we call, forgives our sins, and gives us grace to love Him, keep his commands and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. It should be a wonder morning service anthem, but why not try it in the evening, too, in anticipation of meeting God at the beginning of the next day.  The key to the style of this piece is rhythmic vitality.  The 6/8 meter should be conducted in two, but singers (and the conductor) must feel the eighth note division of the beat as the composition's energizing rhythmic subtext. After the choir has learned the words, pitches and rhythms of the piece, have them let the text go for awhile, and replace it with the syllable doo for every eighth note value. That is, for every eighth note sing 'doo once; for every quarter note sing it twice; for every dotted quarter note sing it three times, and so on. You will hear some giggling from your singers. That is okay.  They will have some fun, and you will hear definite improvement. RJB (barberpianoserv@gmail.com).

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.963030 Composed by Asia Meirovich. Jewish. Octavo. 11 pages. Blue Sustain Music #4603289. Published by Blue Sustain Music (A0.963030). Welcome, My Angels is a slow, lush piece for treble voices incorporating modal harmonies and an increasingly growing ethereal piano part. The text, also written by Asia Meirovich is a personal interpretation of the Jewish Sabbath song, Shalom Aleichem. In the traditional song angels are welcomed into one’s home at the eve of the Sabbath, are asked for peace and a blessing and are blessed at their departure. There are four verses, each repeating twice. The English text keeps the form of the eight verses, each two coincide closely with the original Hebrew text. In this interpretation phrases come back in a different order, creating a new context and shedding a new light as the piece goes on.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955882 Composed by Traditional 16th century English folk song. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Christmas,Contemporary. 14 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6658983. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955882). What Child Is This? is a ‘Christmas carol’ with lyrics written by William Chatterton Dix in 1865, set to the tune of the traditional English folk song ‘Greensleeves’.  The lyrics are taken from his poem The Manger Throne.  The song What Child Is This? was first published in 1871 in Christmas Carols Old and New.  The tune ‘Greensleeves’ association with the festive season can be dated back to 1642; also Shakespeare refers to this popular tune twice in his famous play Merry Wives of Windsor.  This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 3:12. It is arranged with the awe and wonder (and perhaps confusion) the townspeople and shepherds experienced with the birth of ‘this child.’

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914719 Composed by Annie Routley. 20th Century,Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 9 pages. Annie Routley #4301147. Published by Annie Routley (A0.914719). This is the full score - piano accompaniment, drum and SATB choir.  A choir score is available separately  This carol is designed to be very easy to learn and perform.  It needs to be accompanied by piano (simple part) and drum (no snare).  A bodhran or cajon would work just as well.  There is one minor-key tune for both the men and ladies to learn.  (This works as a 4-part round later in the carol)  Â·        The men start, accompanied just by the piano ostinato.  The drum doesn’t enter until bar 7, when the men finish their ‘drums drumming’  Â·        While the ladies sing verse 2, the men sing ‘Drum, drum’ in consecutive 5ths.  NB, the melody is slightly different at the end of the ladies’ verse, since the words ‘poor and lowly stable’ need the melody to come down rather than go up  Â·        Then the ladies sing the ‘Drum, drum’ 5ths whilst the men sing verse 3  Â·        Everyone sings verse 4 in unison and joyously  Â·        Everyone then sings verse 4 twice in a round – basses, altos, tenors then sopranos  Â·        Everyone repeats the last line of verse 4 ‘The child we’ve waited for is born …’ together (the piano and drum cut out so that the voices are unaccompanied in bar 35 – and then resume for bar 36)  Â·        ‘O hear the angels singing’ (unaccompanied) – then a loud chord and drum on beat 3 of the last bar Enjoy!  A high-definition video of the carol is available on YouTube – type in ‘Carol of the Wise Men – CMM Choir’ and select the picture with the choir ladies in white blouses and red scarves
