Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.933611

Composed by John Stafford Smith. Arranged by Thomas Coker. Folk,Patriotic. Octavo. 4 pages. Thomas Rembert Coker Jr #3503513. Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933611).

In 2009 when Sanctuary Choir of South Main Baptist Church in Houston where I served as Music Minister was scheduled to sing the National Anthem for the Houston Astros baseball game, I carefully examined the several arrangements in our library and other resources. Finding nothing which met the simple, straight-forward criteria I was searching for, we created this simple arrangement. Since its addition to the music library it has proven very useful on numerous occasions for a variety of groups.

About the National Anthem:

The lyrics for The Star-Spangled Banner were written on September 14, 1814 from a British ship in the Baltimore Harbor where attorney Francis Scott Key had waited anxiously through the night as the twenty-five hour bombing of Ft. McHenry progressed. He had been sent to negotiate the release of an American civilian and then was held on board the ship.  At the dawn’s early light when the flag could still be seen indicating the British had not taken the fort, he jotted down this poem which on March 3, 1931 finally became the National Anthem of the United States.

Interestingly, it was Robert Ripley who in November of 1929 drew a panel in his syndicated cartoon, Ripley’s Believe It or Not stating Believe It or Not, America has no national anthem. With the encouragement of John Philip Sousa, President Herbert Hoover signed into law the adoption of The Star-Spangled Banner to rectify this situation.

According to the Smithsonian, the melody, written by John Stafford Smith, was originally titled Anacreon in Heaven. Anacreon was an ancient Greek poet known for his love of wine and love. The song had become the constitutional song of a London gentlemen’s club called the Anacreontic Society. Could this explain the wide range of the melody? By utilizing this tune to the moving text, this once merry drinking song took on a bold new and powerful meaning.

A moving, sacred choral composition.  Music by Kevin G. Pace.  Text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.

Text:
Even As a Child
“ . . . becometh as a child, submissive, . . .” - (Mosiah 3:19)

When Jesus was a child, he reasoned with the scribes,
Desiring to teach them at the temple spires.
Because his age was twelve, He stayed in Nazareth,
Growing much in wisdom’s path, gaining holy breath.

He waited patiently, his ministry to come . . .
Yielding to his Father’s will; He was God’s own Son.
He trusted as He lived with all obedience,
Even as He faced, with strength, many mortal threats.

Then when his end was nigh, when none would intercede,
Standing before Pilate’s face, He did never plead.
He firmly held his peace and answered to no man.
Nearing his own death He pled: Clean those soldier’s hands!

In honor He did live, thus showing us the way.
Now He only begs that we, too, can God obey.
Oh, even as this Child abandoned earthly hopes,
Can we also live our lives with our Savior yoked?

Chorus:
Will we also give to Him each worldly desire,
Even as this Child of God, and so be lifted higher?

A stunning choral arrangement with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mark R. Fotheringham.

Text:
Gethsemane, garden lovely. Moonlight filters through o'erhanging trees,
There revealing our blessed Savior, having fallen down upon His knees.
Pleading May this cup, Father, from me pass. But Thy will be done at last.

Golgotha’s Hill, cold and lonely, whispers still of sacrifice and love,
Where the Savior gave up His life for us and for those who waited up above.
Though He suffered sore, He forgave the more, and thus opened heaven's door.

Hewn from the stone, tomb of sorrow, held the body of The Crucified.
Now His mortal work was completed, and His love for all men satisfied.
Though he died for men, yet He rose again, and repentance justified.

Long, dusty road to Emmaus. Two disciples met the risen Lord.
Sacred scriptures there He expounded, showing Jesus was indeed The Word.
And His holy voice, led them to rejoice, from the promises restored.

SKU: A0.921768

Composed by Lisa Waites. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 2 pages. Servant Song Music and Ministry #6629007. Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.921768).

We're Forgiven (God of Grace) was originally scored in a Piano/Guitar/Voice format, but for this Advent/Christmas season, Servant Song Music & Ministry has produced this full SATB Choral arrangement, as well! This particular arrangement is suitable for Beginner and Early Intermediate Church Choirs and Worship Teams, including very small ensembles. If you don't have any men in your choir, you can turn the score into a Soprano/Alto 2-part version pretty easily, too.

This short, accessible piece of worship music was written as a liturgical response for use during Christian services during the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany seasons of the church calendar. It returns the work of the people TO the people, placing the Words of Assurance into the mouths and hearts of the congregation and/or choir, rather than having the minister alone speaking the words of absolution/assurance after the Prayer of Confession.

Set in a simple key for beginning accompanists and including chord charts for guitarists (or pianists who prefer to play by reading the melody notes in the RH and playing by chord symbol with their LH), this song has been set in a perfect vocal range for congregational voices and/or church choirs.

Non-liturgical churches have also appreciated this piece as a way for congregants to respond musically to services on themes such as God's Grace, Forgiveness, Reconciliation, Prodigals, Mercy, and also throughout Advent or whenever the pastor is focusing on themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, Love, etc.

Please don't make illegal copies of this score; it is the primary way I recover the costs of arranging, engraving and publishing new music. I work on the honour system. If you truly can't afford to purchase copies of this piece for each of your singers/musicians, please contact me via email or my Facebook music page, and I'll make sure your group is taken care of. To God be the glory!

An exquisitely beautiful hymn with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.

Text:
Have ye inquired of the Lord?
Have ye bowed at his throne?
Have ye pled for your words to be known?
Have ye listened with care when you seek God in prayer?
Have ye patiently waited alone?

Have ye inquired of the Lord?
Have ye thanked Him for all?
Have ye given Him love to recall?
Have ye knelt at his feet in a sacred retreat?
Does He succor your soul when you fall?

Have ye inquired of the Lord?
Have ye begged for his grace?
Have ye sought after his loving face?
Have ye trusted his voice and then felt to rejoice?
Have ye longed for his loving embrace?

When ye inquire of the Lord,
Ye are blessed with his care.
He will lighten your fears as you share.
He will know of your dreams even more than it seems.
He will make sure you know He is there.

Have Ye Inquired of the Lord? - a sacred hymn
