SKU: A0.1361232

By Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins. By Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. 20th Century,Barbershop,Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show. 17 pages. Stewart J Wallace #945722. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1361232).

On The Sunny Side Of The Street was composed in 1930 and was first heard in a Broadway revue which starred Harry Richman and Gertrude Lawrence. The first recordings also appeared in the same year, and it went on to be become a jazz standard, covered by Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and Art Tatum amongst others. The final bars of this arrangement include a brief tribute to Count Basie, who also recorded the song. The singing needs to light and swinging, with good articulation to the words and accurate placement of the syncopated rhythms. Try to blend the voices so that they sound as one, and aim for a softer, crooning vocal tone, like The Ink Spots or The Andrews Sisters.

Written by Lester Lee  & Zeke Manners  in 1942, and made popular  by the Andrew sisters, The Pennsylvania over years has been celebrated as one of the most popular polkas of all times and obviously the most famous State titled polka. A polka is  a vivacious couple dance of Bohemian origin in duple time; was a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step; a lively Bohemian dance tune in 2/4 time. The polka was originally a Czech peasant dance, developed in Eastern Bohemia (now part of Czechoslovakia).

Growing up in Pennsylvania, nd playing for various local community bands, VFW bands ,Lion's Band ,  etc  we played the Pa Polka for many functions, churches, Seniors, Cake Walks, 4th of July programs, summer and spring concerts, marching bands, parades, and many more events.

The Pennsylvania Polka is such a fun, happy song, in a march tempo beat. However, I am so proud of this arrangement as I am of the state I live in.

,  Another interesting fact is that people not familiar with the song informed me this sounds like a carousel  music at an amusement park

This arrangement would be great for holidays, church functions, Seniors, July 4th concerts, kid's programs, parades, community concerts, or just any other fun concert. It's a great song for playing and breaking up the typical monotonous flute choir music.  A sure flute players favorite as well as your audiences for years to come.

Smartly scored for 2 piccolos, 4 c flutes , 2 altos in G , bass flute , and contra bass flute .** however, a 5th c flute made be played for alto flute 1 .  Arranged in an intermediate to advanced intermediate style ( considering the top / high instrumentation)

SKU: A0.1474225

By The Andrews Sisters. By Aloysio Oliveira, Ervin Drake, and Zequinha Abreu. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,Latin,Pop,Standards. 16 pages. Scott S. Stewart #1051893. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1474225).

Tico-Tico,” was composed in 1917 by Zequinha de Abreu, a Portuguese émigré to Brazil. “Tico-Tico” is actually a choro — a song form that typically shrugs off misfortune with good humor, good tunes and fast tempos. The title refers to a bird that got into the cornmeal. “Tico-Tico”’s catchy, syncopated rhythm is irresistible; the critical challenge is to capture that elusive rhythm – with that perfect tempo. This arrangement uses the 1942 English text of Ervin Drake popularized by the Andrew Sisters.  it is arranged for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. It starts with a slow seductive Samba tempo and accelerates to a Prestissimo finish.  Performance time: 2:45.
