Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.829504

Composed by C. Held, Richard H. Neiderhiser. Arranged by Lyndell Leatherman. Sacred. Octavo. 1 pages. Leatherman Music Services #5775291. Published by Leatherman Music Services (A0.829504).

From 1978 to 1992 I was honored to serve on staff with Dr. Richard H. Neiderhiser at the Grandview (Missouri) Church of the Nazarene. In addition to his impressive homiletic skills, he possessed a rich background in music and liturgy. Those were golden years as together we sought fresh expressions of worship. Every Advent season he would come up with a relatively obscure Advent hymn text and then use each stanza as the outline for that Sunday's sermon. And each Sunday we would start on stanza one and sing through the stanza of the day. Often he would write a new tune for the text; such is the case with Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord. With Dr. Neiderhiser’s blessing I offer it here for your consideration next Advent. The mp3 demo plays through the music twice. The purchase price allows you to duplicate as many copies as you need for your instrumental and vocal musicians.

Text:
No other gift than Christ’s perfect love; no other gift came down from above.
No other gift gives guidance with grace. No other gift lends God’s pure embrace.
No other gift, no other vowed gift guides all to Him and saves us from sin.
No other gift than Jesus’ blessed course rescues a soul from cripp’ling remorse.

No other life, no, no other man suffered to give us God’s perfect plan.
No other eyes viewed what He foresaw. No other life can heal ev’ry flaw.
No other life redeems all who fall; no other life was given for all.
No other life can cure ev’ry pain. No other life has suffered for gain.

No other gift, no, no other gift proves his great love; He came from above.
No other gift can save us today; He is the One who’s shown us the way.
All for our sakes He came from above, bearing great love. He gives us his love.
No other gift, there’s no greater gift than Jesus Christ, our Savior . . . the Christ.

“God Bless (Save) Us All†– An LGBTQ Anthem: José Julio Sarria (1922-2013), the 1st openly gay candidate for political office in the United States, and San Francisco drag queen performer ‘extraordinaire’ at the Black Cat Bar, or “The best gay bar in America†– Allen Ginsberg; would at the end of each of his (Sarria’s) performances ask the audience to make a circle and join hands and sing “God Save Us Nelly Queens†(to the tune of ‘God Save the Queen’). I served as Conductor of the local LGBT (at that time no ‘Q’) mixed chorus during the 20th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. To celebrate Sarria’s intention of unification I arranged an SATB inclusive version (with piano accompaniment) of his anthem. I have updated the lyrics to include our many embraced diversities. (Adapt the words as needed for your organization, &/or political climate. – sss) Performance time: 1:05+.

Text:
In my Samaria, Walking with lesions,
Latter-day maladies Torment my soul.
I lift my searching voice High to the heavens
Pleading for grace divine, And to be whole.

Through His discerning love, Knowing my weakness,
And with omniscient care, God bids me on.
Then, in His majesty, Mercy and meekness
Christ’s balm surrounds me - e-My stains are gone!

Falling to my knees, As did the leper,
Gratitude seals my love With reverent awe.
I raise my words in thanks -- He is my Healer;
His past Gethsemane Cures without flaw.

Cleansed, I am wholly cleansed, Just like the leper.
Christ is my perfect Source . . . I’m not alone.
He spent his life for me Teaching, redeeming;
He sacrificed for me; I am His own.

SKU: A0.939717

Composed by Richard St. Clair. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 23 pages. Richard St. Clair #3002339. Published by Richard St. Clair (A0.939717).

This 9-minute motet in which the Buddha-to-be Dharmakara praises His master, Lokeshvaraja Buddha and vows to become the Savior of all Beings (namely, Amida Buddha). The music beings with an extended recitative/aria by solo soprano, and proceeds to the full choral ensemble to its conclusion. The MP3 Audio Clip is a computer-generated soundfile of the entire work. The music is completely tonal and traditional, suitable for good amateur choirs and professional choruses alike.

Words from the Larger Sutra on Amida Buddha expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha some 2500 years ago in India.

[Setting: Many ages ago, Dharmakara Bhikshu (in his stage before becoming Amida Buddha) declares to his Master, Buddha Lokeshvararaja, his intention to create a Pure Land wherein all suffering beings can be saved.]

Text (slightly abridged):

Then appeared a Buddha named Lokeshvararaja, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, Possessed of Wisdom and Practice, Perfected One, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed One, Tamer of Men, Master of Gods and Men, Buddha and World-Honored One.

At that time there was a king, who, having heard the Buddha's exposition of the Dharma, rejoiced in his heart and awakened aspiration for the highest, perfect Enlightenment. He renounced his kingdom and the throne, and became a monk named Dharmakara. Having superior intelligence, courage and wisdom, he distinguished himself in the world. He went to see the Tathagata Lokeshvararaja, knelt down at his feet, walked round him three times keeping him always on his right, prostrated himself on the ground, and putting his palms together in worship, praised the Buddha with these verses:

The shining face of the Buddha is glorious;
Boundless is his magnificence.
Radiant splendor such as his
Is beyond all comparison.
The sun, the moon and the mani-jewel,
Though shining with dazzling brightness,
Are completely dimmed and obscured
As if they were a pile of ink-sticks

The countenance of the Tathagata
Is beyond compare in the whole world.
The great voice of the Enlightened One
Resounds throughout the ten regions.
His morality, learning, endeavor,
Absorption in meditation, wisdom
And magnificent virtues have no equal;
They are wonderful and unsurpassed.

I resolve to become a Buddha,
Equal in attainment to you, O holy king of the Dharma,
To save living beings from birth-and-death,
And to lead them all to emancipation.
I vow that, when I have become a Buddha,
I shall carry out this promise everywhere;
And to all fear-ridden beings
Shall I give great peace.

Even though there are Buddhas,
A thousand million kotis in number,
And multiudes of great sages
Countless as the sands of the Ganges,
I shall make offerings
To all those Buddhas.
I shall seek the supreme Way
Resolutely and tirelessly.

Even though the Buddha-lands are as innumerable
As the sands of the Ganges,
And other regions and worlds
Are also without number,
My light shall shine everywhere,
Pervading all those lands.
Such being the result of my efforts,
My glorious power shall be immeasurable.

When I have become a Buddha,
My land shall be most exquisite,
And its people wonderful and unexcelled;
The seat of Enlightenment shall be supreme.
My land, being like Nirvana itself,
Shall be beyond comparison.
I take pity on living beings
And resolve to save them all.

Those who come from the ten quarters
Shall find joy and serenity of heart;
When they reach my land,
They shall dwell in peace and happiness.
I beg you, the Buddha, to become my witness
And to vouch for the truth of my aspiration.
Having now made my vows to you,
I will strive to fulfilll them.

The World-Honored Ones in the ten quarters
Have unimpeded wisdom;
I call upon those Honored Ones
To bear witness to my intention.
Even though I mu.

SKU: A0.1002444

Composed by Graham Charles, Graham Charles (Abc Sattler, and Leonie Marion Cambage. Arranged by Elzbieta Ambrose. Contemporary. Octavo. 13 pages. Elizabeth (Elzbieta) Ambrose #6437199. Published by Elizabeth (Elzbieta) Ambrose (A0.1002444).

The original name Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti (Comic Duet for Two Cats) composed by Giacomo Rossini is a comedy composition in an opera style. This arrangement is for four voices with piano accompaniment.

Piano is a part of an act, starting too loudly and ‘shushed’ by four cats in bar two who are satisfied in bar 3 with mp playing. Bar 4 of the piano accompaniment adds an extra note to please all four cats. Please treat this music like a dialogue of four characters with the high authority from the bass line. The discussion turns to perfect harmony in bar 34 (Andantino) to move to dialogue between three voices against the soprano cat which wants to show of with the final cadence. This could be treated accordingly to soprano’s range and imagination. The given ending is only a suggestion. It can easily end on top ‘C’ or 'F'. The most important is the accuracy and security of each voice. They need to reflect the spirit of the characters. It is interesting how one simple miau can make this music so expressive. It is fun to sing and a treat to listen to. This is a very good choice for a light-hearted number for any concert, from an opera to recital. Four single voices could be doubled if once prefers. It could be challenging for the choir to keep the tight accuracy of each line but not impossible. Definitely a good choice for four secure voices who are eager to entertain.
