Composed by Kevin G. Pace (ASCAP), Mark R. Fotheringham. Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 2 pages. Kevin G. Pace #623698. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1018115).

A sacred hymn with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mark R. Fotheringham. Text: Tread the strait and narrow path, though the goal seems far from sight. Walk with knowledge through the day; walk with faith throughout the night. Confidently take each step. You're marching for the right. When following our Savoir Lord, you're walking in the light. Step by step we make our way, knowing we are never lost Jesus Christ has paid our toll, counting it but little cost. Travel through the heat of day, or struggle on through frost. Our Lord will be there by your side through calm or tempest tossed. When the path is strewn with stones, obstacles hedge up the way, Hold a true course if you can. Wander not nor go astray. Bid the saints to render aid, support you in the fray. One day you'll walk back unto God to rest and ever stay.

Help fight the extinction crisis! Here's an important work for our times that's perfect for your nature/environmental program. It's an SATB (some divisi) a cappella choral piece with option soundscape, but stands alone with the singers making some nature sounds.

An Extinction by Kim Stafford
Not just the creature gone, not just the tattered feathers, dry leaf pressed thin.
Not just the rendering from memory, not just the lost-list growing longer, a shape and hue from the field guide fled,
not just a name that meant a life, a syllable that once was teeming glory, one bright flurry shimmering the sun.
No. No. No. It’s one name gone from our happiness,
one breath lost from our respiration,
one thread frayed from our salvation,
one plank gone from the ark that carried us.
Be the songbird now and testify.
Be the butterfly hinge of gold.
Be the one with open hands these wonders to behold.
Don’t let them fly.
Be the songbird now and testify.

Program note — Commissioned by Inversion Ensemble for its February 2023 Planet Home concert, Extinction sets the poem “An Extinction†(2022) by Kim Stafford for SATB mixed chorus. The three stanzas of the poem get distinct musical treatment: the first some text-painting and dissonance, the second rhythmic parts underpinning canonic melodic lines, the third a rich chorale. During my work on this piece, I happened to be traveling by train. The pitches of the train whistle snuck their way into the score as a dissonant chord. A nature soundscape may sometimes accompany this piece, although the tongue click sounds create a bit of their own aural ecosystem. Drawing attention to the unfolding catastrophe of mass extinction, Extinction hopes to inspire humans to action to prevent further loss of species biodiversity.

Composed by Jamie Dawson Wilcutts. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Patriotic. Octavo. 10 pages. WilcuttsMusPub #6027693. Published by WilcuttsMusPub (A0.1008843).

An American Civil War Poem is a choral setting of the following poem by George Booker:

 Blood, blood! The lines of every printed sheet

 Through their dark Arteries reek with running gore;

 At hearth, at board, before the household door,

 ’T is the sole subject with which neighbors meet.

 Girls at the feast, and children in the street,

  Prattle of horrors; flash their little store

  Of simple jests against the cannon’s roar,

  As if mere slaughter kept existence sweet.

 O, heaven, I quail at the familiar way

  This fool, the world, disports his jingling cap;

  Murdering or dying with one grin agap!

 Our very Love comes draggled from the fray,

  Smiling at victory, scowling at mishap,

  with gory Death companioned and at play.

 As you can see, the poem holds nothing back in its description.
