Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1094371

Composed by David Rain. Arranged by David Rain. A Cappella,Classical,Contemporary,Renaissance. 6 pages. David Rain, Choral Composer #698441. Published by David Rain, Choral Composer (A0.1094371).

“How heavy lies the heart†has drawn inspiration from the traditional French Christmas carol, “Quelle est cette odeur agréableâ€, which John Gay also set as a boisterous drinking song in the Beggar’s Opera, “Fill every glass, for wine inspires us!†The song also draws inspiration from Josquin’s Missa Pange Lingua. I dedicate this piece to my friends in the composer/singer collective, the Ad hoc Chorale, who tested out this piece in one of our informal workshops and offered valuable comments. Optional endings. Note that choirs have been given the option to choose which of the 3 endings they would like to sing, depending on how they feel the “story line†in the song should best reach its conclusion: (1) The “happy†ending appears to indicate that the narrator has been reunited with the friend or lover who departed. (2) The “less happy†ending plants a seed of doubt that no such reunion has happened; it may be in the narrator’s head. (3) The “even less happy†ending leaves listeners in even more doubt. NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group them together into a choral suite that I have called The Ottawa Four Seasons Suite. “How heavy lies the heart†seemed to work perfectly as the musical representative of an autumnal spirit.

SKU: A0.844248

Composed by Ray Conniff. Arranged by Gerhard Guter. A Cappella. 14 pages. Gerhard Guter #4302845. Published by Gerhard Guter (A0.844248).

Voicing: SATB a cappella, with rhythm section (piano, electric bass, drums)

Style: Bossa Nova

This arrangement of Ray Conniff's Favorite Theme from Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto will bring to mind the writing style of Clare Fischer for his 2+2 vocal groups. Though still a challenge, especially with the optional vocal soli, this Conniff-themed edition has been adapted from a more difficult version previously performed by Vocalogy on their 2005 Distilled release. The piece opens with a pulsating rhythm section figure as pianist, bassist, and drummer enter one by one. The wonderful moments of tension have been maintained beneath Rachmaninoff's soaringly romantic melody, and the wordless vocal provides an ethereal quality. With the optional soli, this is an Advanced level arrangement. There is room for improvising regardless of whether or not the soli is performed and, with no soli, this is an Advanced Intermediate arrangement.

Included individual piano, bass, and drum parts play from individual parts with chord symbols, slashes, and rhythmic notation. Drums alternate between brushes and sticks. Electric bass is preferred, but acoustic bass works.

Together As One - Choral Composition for SATB and Piano by Michael Thomas Coull

Together As One is a song about singing in a choir and performing to an audience.  It explores how singing gives us both sides of the emotional coin:  from nervousness and even trepidation on one side, to great joy on the other.

We all feel nervous before a performance, and even more so when we are actually standing in front of the audience.  But then we are announced, the choir director raises their arms, the accompanist starts the introduction and we are all brought in and start singing.  And at that moment we realize something, that when we all sing a great joy overtakes us, lifting us up to another world where our voices meld 'Together As One'.

This original composition for SATB choir and piano accompaniment is an inspirational song that captures the mood and enjoyment of singing, and how singing effects us both individually and as a group.  A song that your choir will love to sing with beautiful harmonies and a soaring descant part, and perfect to perform at any time of the year.

Also available for SSAA, 2-Part and Unison.

Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452).

A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:
- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)
- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.
- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!
- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.
- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!
- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below.

The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra.

In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers.

The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.

I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!

Composed by Carol Taylor. Arranged by Carol Taylor. Christian,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 13 pages. C.Taylor #3111381. Published by C.Taylor (A0.934048).

This is a big piece with much emotion about the Resurrection.  Words are directly taken from I Thessalonians 4
It is inspirational and the focal point of all Christian religion--the Resurrection
Because it is scripture set to music it is appropriate for all Christian organizations
Brass and Timpani/Drums could be added for emphasis (though I have not specifically written those parts--they are rather obvious!)
Please excuse the MP3 quality.  I did not have a choir to record my piece and cannot sing bass or tenor properly.  This is just to give you an idea of the sound and really needs a full size choir to perform.
It takes about 6 minutes to perform and ends on a very big high!
I have extensive contacts on many Facebook sites both secular and religious
I am part of a worldwide Church organization and this piece has been used privately in one service for a special High day we celebrate each year
I am not part of any Performing Rights groups
My contact information is: Caroltaylor27@yahoo.com  please contact me with questions or if you would like the music in individual parts or if you would like me to write a brass or Timpani parts.
SATB with the melody shifting from soprano to bass to tenor.  MUST have a strong bass section to handle this piece

Let's Call the Whole Thing Off - SATB. Composed by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin. Arranged by Russell L. Robinson. Choral. 9 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PO-0002257. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PO-0002257).

Here's a light, swinging arrangement of a cute George and Ira Gershwin song that's ideal for any age choir. High school groups can sink their teeth into it, middle school groups can really make music with it, and elementary groups can just have fun with it. The clever lyrics (you say ee-ther and I say eye-ther) are the focus of this piece. Great for jazz/pop groups, too.

Cori Celesti for SATB choir, composed by Dom Waldock

Named after the vast mountain at the centre of the Discworld, this choral piece describes the realm of Dunmanifestin at the top of Cori Celesti. It is the home of the Discworld Gods whom manifest in the presence of mortal beings’ belief. The work begins and ends with a ritualistic chant, sang syllabically in 7/4 metre separated into groups of four and three. We then go on to hear about the Gods in more detail such as The Lady, Fate and the King of the Gods: Blind Io. The lyrical content can be seen below:

Dunmanifestin, dun, Dunmanifestin.
Atop the mountain, there they live,
Sustained by our belief.
The Gods of Discworld gaze below, At wizard, troll and thief.

Cori Celesti, Cori Celesti, Cori Celesti, Cori Celesti.

The dice are rolled,
The game of life begins. The Lady,
And Fate choose their pawns.

Blind Io, the King of the Gods, Watches eyeless from his throne. Overseer of mortal lives, Worship him.

Blind Io, the King of the Gods, (Patina, Goddess of Wisdom) (Astoria, Goddess of Love) Watches eyeless from his throne. (Ikebana, Goddess of Topiary) (Errata, Goddess of Misunderstandings)
Overseer of mortal lives, (Offler, the Crocodile God) (Neoldian, Blacksmith of the Gods) Worship him (worship them), worship them (worship him).

Composed by Howard Blake. Arranged by George Montagu. A Cappella,Children,Christmas,Film/TV,Holiday. Octavo. 8 pages. George Montagu #104436. Published by George Montagu (A0.485727).

A seasonal smash hit that has a place in all our hearts, this arrangement of Howard Blake's 'Walking in the Air' (from the classic animated film 'The Snowman' [1982]) is written for unaccompanied SATB choir and is intended for choirs and carolling groups of an experience level somewhere between beginner and intermediate. The parts are written in a way that is straightforward to learn & sing whilst remaining really fun & interesting. It is the undisputed favourite of carolling group 'All Change Please', whose 2019 performance of the arrangement you can hear in the audio sample and YouTube video. If you decide to perform this piece, I would love to hear about it, and would be especially thrilled if you could share footage of the performance! My email is gmontagu.online@gmail.com should you wish to do so. Many thanks!

Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by David Rain. A Cappella,Classical,Contemporary. 6 pages. David Rain, Choral Composer #696006. Published by David Rain, Choral Composer (A0.1091873).

Erik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. For a long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try. Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year. Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted. As dawn breaks was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful. NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group them together into a choral suite that I have called The Ottawa Four Seasons Suite. As dawn breaks works perfectly as the opening number of this suite. Finally, my instruction to choirs is to sing as if in a painting, and indeed I invite any artists who might draw inspiration from this piece to consider creating a companion work of art to accompany it.
