SATB Chorus & Piano - Digital Download

SKU: IZ.VMW2211

Composed by Michael Francis Smith. Octavo. 14 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #VMW2211. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.VMW2211).

9 x 12 inches.

“The Galaxies is a grand orchestral composition in A minor written for string orchestra, mixing classical and modern musical writing styles.

This piece tells the story of three young American astronauts who went up to space to discover the galaxies and life in outer space. They found out things that no one has ever thought of, the gleams and sophistication, the immense beauty that defies our human knowledge on space.

This piece is divided into three parts, namely Adagietto, Maestoso and Grandioso.

Adagietto represents the mysteriousness of space and the awe they felt as they took their first glance into the surreal world of fantasies and imaginations.

Maestoso is the central part of the piece, where the main theme resembles the exquisitely beautiful galaxies in outer space. Over several years, they found a way to communicate with the extra-terrestrial and developed a mutual understanding. This part contains various majestically glorious melodies, symbolising the visions of humanity. They took a giant leap of faith for this nearly impossible mission to perceive what humankind can never envision.

Grandioso signifies the lavish natural architectures that filled the galaxies and the monumental bonding between humans and aliens. As the friendship blossomed, they further explored the world that has been an enigma for centuries.

Before the piece ends, the main theme is delivered again. This time, it is an emotional farewell as these astronauts return to Earth and cannot wait to share information that will revolutionise astrophysics forever.

Together As One - Choral Composition for SATB and Piano by Michael Thomas Coull

Together As One is a song about singing in a choir and performing to an audience.  It explores how singing gives us both sides of the emotional coin:  from nervousness and even trepidation on one side, to great joy on the other.

We all feel nervous before a performance, and even more so when we are actually standing in front of the audience.  But then we are announced, the choir director raises their arms, the accompanist starts the introduction and we are all brought in and start singing.  And at that moment we realize something, that when we all sing a great joy overtakes us, lifting us up to another world where our voices meld 'Together As One'.

This original composition for SATB choir and piano accompaniment is an inspirational song that captures the mood and enjoyment of singing, and how singing effects us both individually and as a group.  A song that your choir will love to sing with beautiful harmonies and a soaring descant part, and perfect to perform at any time of the year.

Also available for SSAA, 2-Part and Unison.

Composed by Carlos M. Camejo. A Cappella,Contemporary. Octavo. 6 pages. Carlos m Camejo jr #2151059. Published by Carlos m Camejo jr (A0.1003121).

A short a cappella motet that expands to 8 parts derived from a short text by Renaissance Spanish nun and mystic, Teresa de Ãvila. It is religious enough to be performed in church or even a Reform/Conservative synagogue, but secular enough to be performed in the schools - not preaching the message or presuming any truths above any others.

The only thing I can recommend in performance, really, is to tune tenor parts well as they're in close dissonance with the altos and baritones frequently.

Composed by Keaton Manwaring. A Cappella. Octavo. 6 pages. Keaton Manwaring #777622. Published by Keaton Manwaring (A0.1177607).

Hope is such a powerful thing that can push us through the toughest of times. In this poem, Emily Dickinson calls hope a feathered thing. It perches in the soul and sings without stoping. The singing is at the loudest when things are at their worst. Although hope is the central theme to the poem, the harsh conditions that are described in the poem was the driving force while writing the music. Creating a sound for the chillest day and the storm that could not abash the little bird was what really inspired me to write this piece.

Something that stood out for me, was the use of dashes that breaks up the poem. I used rests to create these breaks. These rests are very deliberate to show these pauses of contemplation, almost struggling for the right words to describe a complex subject such as hope. At first the rests felt like a hindrance, where it felt natural for the music to flow, but now I cannot imagine the piece without it.

Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452).

A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:
- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)
- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.
- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!
- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.
- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!
- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below.

The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra.

In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers.

The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.

I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!

Composed by Laurie Betts Hughes. Contemporary,Holiday,Wedding. Octavo. 13 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106857. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891214).

A good choice for a pop-fusion harmonic language that will speak to your young adult choir, and possible open some meaningful dialogue about relationships.

The composer writes: In the wisdom or fog of High School, I would daydream about what love truly was. I pined away from summer camp for the boy back home, imagining that I had found the Real Thing.  It is now several decades later, and after a few bumps and bruises suffered from trying to figure out just what true love actually is, I have discovered that this text is more about the journey of love and not about the destination.  This poem, like great Art, shifts and changes in meaning as the reader grows in understanding and changes.  I imagine that Love is like Art in this way- shifting in meaning over a lifetime of maturity and growth.

A reharmonization of the well known text. There are many cheery arrangements of this song, which never made much sense to me. This arrangement bucks that trend in favor of a more serious and contemplative take- reflective of the faithful nature and emotional weight present in the text. Without overcomplicating things for listeners, the reharmonization of this text brings out a more introspective character. This piece is great if youre looking for something familiar for your audience, but also want to surprise them with something new.

(sound file is strings because MIDI voices don't sustain well like real voices. trust me. the strings are better for the MP3).

As a creator, something I value above all else is the ability to do so with others. There’s a beauty found where minds meet that no one person can achieve alone.

So, in search of that beauty, before I even started to work on this piece, I met with the students of Waukesha North High School at the end of their 2023 school year. And we talked. We talked about how life was going. The good and bad. The ups and downs. Things lost. Things found… They shared some laughs and even some tears… The conversations we had were unexpectedly poignant and stuck with me throughout the writing process.

School is a time of great change in our lives and often we are so focused on “getting through†that we don’t really stop to appreciate it until later. This piece celebrates that part of the process. The way we build onto ourselves- acknowledging and accepting that our experiences we have during this time, both good and bad, are crucial to our identity and our ability to move forward in life. They are the cornerstones of who we are and who we become… Inspired by these experiences we shared, I wrote this text. It’s about building a house. The “house†being our self.

Here's a light, swinging arrangement of a cute George and Ira Gershwin song that's ideal for any age choir. High school groups can sink their teeth into it, middle school groups can really make music with it, and elementary groups can just have fun with it. The clever lyrics (you say ee-ther and I say eye-ther) are the focus of this piece. Great for jazz/pop groups, too.

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Gunnar Madsen, Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106157. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891208).

If you are looking to lighten your concert, to program real music, or a piece with rapid text delivery satisfying to mid-level HS choirs and community choirs with adult choral beginners, bring this hilarious 3 minute piece to your outstanding accompanist-pianist and your developing ensemble.  Debuted for choir during an educational outreach concert for children with families, Mozart's At the Window is also an effective selection or encore for a Mozart concert, or standing on its own.  Piece features lots of vocal doubling and is fully supported by a pianistic reduction-- this piece shines with an amazing accompanist.

The choral arranger writes: After getting absolutely sick of the inane music I'd been playing for my young children in the car, I was elated to discover Gunnar Madsen's CD I'm Growing featuring Mozart's At the Window.  The kids were delighted with this funny song about some naughty kid, and my husband and I were delighted with the enormous improvement of musical quality in our vehicle.  It was shortly thereafter that this choral arrangement was born.

Gunnar writes: In my first music theory class in college, the teacher and the students were recalling the silly ways they'd been taught to remember classical melodies when they were young.  One of them was for Mozart's 40th symphony (which I'd never heard) which consisted of Now Mozart's at the window - Let him in, Let him in, Let him in.  What an ear-worm!  For 25 years now I've dreamt of expanding that ditty into something more substantial, and now I'm proud to present the finished piece.  I'm really going to get a kick of sending this one to my teacher!

Also available in Two-Part Treble voicing.
