Vozzella (A0.778341). It is Well with My Soul whose words were written by Horatio G. Spafford. On November 22, 1873, this preacher and good friend of Mr. Bliss lost his four children in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of a collision. Mr. Spafford had sent his wife and children ahead, promising to meet them in France, shortly. He wrote the verses in mid-Atlantic on his way over to join his bereaved wife. He asked Mr. Bliss to write the music for his verses. It was introduced publicly for the first time at a ministers' meeting in Chicago in November, 1876. One month later, it was well with Mr. Bliss's soul, as he was reunited with the Spafford children.From one of 46 booklets by Ed Reese in the Christian Hall of Fame series.

Based on Revelation 1: 5-6, Jesus Was The First To Conquer Death is an anthem that resembles the Victorian choral writings of Sir John Goss (1800-1880) and John Stainer (1840-1901). The first part states that Christ is the ruler of all earthly kings and should be sung at a stately manner, but not too slow. The next part, where the choir sings at a slower pace, is about Christ's love for humanity. The final section is performed at a moderately fast tempo and it is about Christ's eternal glory. The speed for the Amen section could be stretched to bring the anthem to a brilliant conclusion.    .

Gabriel Fauré's, Messe Basse (Low Mass) was originally written for female voices, with soloists and unison choir, consisting of a Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. This arrangement draws upon Fauré's original two part setting. Solo lines and accompaniment, for the most part, have remained untouched. The SATB arrangement, wherever possible, draws upon the original parts and harmonies, resulting in an arrangement that is keeping to the original, creating an effective arrangement for SATB choir, with minimal divisi. It can effectively be accompanied by piano or organ (harmonium).

Attention is paid to timing and pitch; applying the piano or organ accompaniment while the choir sings the notes before singing the lyrics would be helpful to develop the feel the music.

The truth sent from above is an English folk carol of unknown authorship usually performed at Christmas. Collected in the early part of the 20th century by English folk song collectors in Shropshire and Herefordshire, a number of variations on the tune exist, but the text remains broadly similar. The first line of the carol is This is the truth sent from above.
