Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.887673 Composed by Cat McGill. Folk. Octavo. 5 pages. Cat McGill #3508909. Published by Cat McGill (A0.887673). The Ballad of Flora and James is a re-working of a traditional broadside ballad, the original of which can be found in the archives at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. The original tells the story of Flora, a young girl who dresses as a man in order to follow her boyfriend to sea - but this modern day version has roles reversed, and it's James who joins the war to be with Flora.Cat's clever arrangement brings this story firmly in to the modern era, and affectionately pokes fun at the 'traditional' gender roles often featured in this type of song. It's a hearty song; funny, and fun to sing, and suitable for all ages. There is NO MINIMUM ORDER quantity on this arrangement, because I arrange all my songs to be taught by ear. I've taught this one myself to my community choir and they have really enjoyed singing it - I hope you do too!

Choral Choir (Mixed) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575608 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Folk,World. Octavo. 8 pages. David Warin Solomons #2026283. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575608). After singing the excellent Britten setting of this traditional song I was moved to write various versions of my own: The choral versions are more sophisticated than the original but different from and possibly rather easier than the Britten arrangement. The voice and guitar version has a more interesting guitar part than the traditional guitar chords. The sound samples are sung by Matthew Curtis of choraltracks.com for the choral versions and by Margaret Jackson-Roberts with the composer on guitar for the voice and guitar version. All three versions are available here: voice and guitar (low alto or high tenor: both versions are in the pdf file) Women's voices (SSA or SMezA) men's voices (TBarB) in D major and in B major (both versions are in the pdf file) videos of the choral versions can be seen here: women's voices https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yumtXSa_o-w men's voices https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxy3opZlBog.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891191 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Laurie Betts Hughes. Contemporary,Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 16 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3103589. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891191). An ideal SATB choice for Middle School/early High School changing voice and developing ensembles of all ages, this boy-friendly accompanied concert arrangement explores the cambiata voice, male vocal registers, and encourages enthusiastic use of the falsetto and upper range through the use of an appealing yodel. Ask your choristers to bring their guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, and banjos and strum along!Conceived using the SA(T)B concept (http://www.dandavisonmusic.com/what-is-satb.html) and also available in Two-Part Treble and Unison voicings, Git Along Little Dogies is a traditional American cowboy ballad.  The melody and lyrics were first published in 1910 in John Lomax's Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads, though the song has existed long before publication in the anonymous aural tradition of folk music. Since selling cattle was quite profitable, a crew of cowboys drove a herd, particularly from Texas, to railheads where they would be loaded into railcars and shipped cross-country to get the best price at market. Cowboys watched the cattle 24 hours a day, herding them in the proper direction in the daytime and watching them at night to prevent stampedes and deter theft.  Around the campfire, cowboys sang of life on the trail with all the challenges, hardships, and dangers encountered along the way.E. C. Teddy Blue Abbott, honored in the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame, explains The singing was supposed to soothe the cattle and it did... The two men on guard would circle around with their horses on a walk, if it was a clear night and the cattle was bedded down and quiet, and one man would sing a verse of a song, and his partner on the other side of the herd would sing another verse; and you'd go through a whole song that way.Notable performances: 2016 Idaho Middle School All-State Choir, inaugural year | 2016 Northshore 6th Grade Honor Choir, boys2017 Choral Contest EntryLaurie Betts Hughes, ASCAP | www.LaurieBettsHughes.com

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1011383 Composed by New England Folksong. Arranged by Derek Larson. A Cappella,Contemporary,Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 7 pages. Derek Larson #3242161. Published by Derek Larson (A0.1011383). An a cappella setting for SATB chorus with some splits within the parts of allegedly one of the first ballads to come from the Northeastern American colonies. Though the comedic text and music are more common, this public domain tune and story are arranged here to dramatically tell the tragic story of a young man whose life as an adult was just beginning when he was struck by a poisonous serpent as he mowed a field alone. Choirs will love the wistful melody and harmonies found in this rich arrangement of a piece of colonial history.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308788 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. 11 pages. Tobi Crawford #898034. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1396538 Composed by traditional Anglo-Scottish tune. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. 4 pages. Scott S. Stewart #979877. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1396538). Lowlands Away is a traditional Anglo-Scottish tune that exists in multiple versions, as both a ballad and a shanty. In this its ballad form the narrator mourns the death of the woman left behind by her beau. Note: “John was a slang term for a sailor, used to describe a ship's deckhands.  And shanties often have a call and response structure, this allowed one sailor to set the rhythm of work for the others.  This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble, with the bass section taking the lead.  It is to be performed a cappella.  Performance time: 3:10+-.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.904850 By Cyndi Lauper. By Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Arranged by Marco Borsoi. Pop. 11 pages. Marco Borsoi #3868761. Published by Marco Borsoi (A0.904850). True Colors, usually attributed to Cyndi Lauper, was actually written by Billy Steinberg, who initially conceived it as a ballad to devote to his mother. Tom Kelly advised him to change the first stanza, to make the song more salable in the international music scene, and together they proposed their song to the American singer Cyndi Lauper, who agreed to interpret it, provided that he could completely modify the arrangement. The original score was in fact in the form of a gospel ballad with accompaniment to the piano.A too traditional choice for Cyndi, who submitted her new version to Billy and Tom, getting their enthusiastic consent. Thus, in 1986, it was born True Colors, one of the most important songs of the pop artist. This single force on the text and trust that convey the words, so much to be interpreted by various international artists such as Phil Collins and Lily Juniper.-----------True Colors, solitamente attribuita a Cyndi Lauper, è stata scritta in realtà da Billy Steinberg, che la concepì inizialmente come una ballata da dedicare a sua madre.
