The lilting rhythms of compound metre portray the gentle rocking of a baby's crib, clearly referring to the song's subject matter. Textural variation in the piano and choral parts provide variety in each verse. The piece is appropriate for most standards of SATB choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs. The accompaniment is quite pianistic but can be played/adapted on the organ.
