Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.774722

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Folk,World. Octavo. 16 pages. Sandra Milliken #3863763. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774722).

Brisbane Ladies, sometimes known as Augathella Station, is an Australian folk song based on an English naval song titled Spanish Ladies. The song probably dates from the time of the War of the First Coalition (1793-96) when the Royal Navy carried supplies to Spain in support of that country’s resistance to revolutionary France. It then probably gained further popularity during the later Peninsular War when British soldiers were transported to Spain to assist rebels fighting against the French occupation by the forces of Napoleon. Spanish Ladies is a tale of British naval personnel sailing north from Spain and along the English Channel to their home port.

Due to its popularity, several variants of Spanish Ladies later appeared in various parts of the world. American whalers sang a version called Yankee Whalermen. In Newfoundland it appeared as We’ll Rant and We’ll Roar. Special lyrics were written to the tune for the Bluenose, a famous Canadian sailing ship plying out of Nova Scotia.

In Australia, around 1880, another set of lyrics appeared, written by Saul Mendelsohn who was a storekeeper in the small Queensland town of Nanango. Brisbane Ladies tells about the drovers who bring the herds of cattle overland from western Queensland to the markets in Brisbane. There the drovers spend most of their money and time with the ladies before setting out for home in search of the next herd of cattle for market.

The places mentioned in Brisbane Ladies are mostly small towns along the stock route that stretched some 750 kilometres north-west of Brisbane towards the small town of Augathella, on the banks of the Warrego River. Augathella, at that time, marked the convergence of three major bullock tracks from Morven, Tambo and Charleville.

SATB unaccompanied | Duration: 2m30 | Difficulty: Moderate (needing good breath support)

with rehearsal piano.

Texts by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)

A setting of two separate texts appearing on Stevenson's memorial in St. Giles Cathedral. The first part is flowing, irregular, folk-like; the second a solemn but joyful hymn.  This could be either a concert piece or used in a ceremony of remembrance.

2019

Give us grace and strength to forbear and to persevere.
Give us courage and gaiety, and the quiet mind.
Spare to us our friends, soften to us our enemies.
Bless us, if it may be, in all our innocent endeavours.
If it may not, give us the strength to encounter that which is to come,
that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temperate in wrath,
and in all changes of fortune,
and down to the gates of death,
loyal and loving to one another.

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

Robert Louis Stevenson, Scotland, prayer, thanksgiving, memorial, funeral, remembrance, folk, anthem.

Composed by James W. Knox. Contemporary,World. Octavo. 17 pages. Knox Music #6599787. Published by Knox Music (A0.942890).

On the Lake written for advanced SSAA divisi and harp.
Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.

ON THE LAKE
There's a beautiful lake where the sun lies low, And the skies are warm with their summer glow; And a beautiful picture there I see Where the winds are warm and the waves are free, And the waves lie still in the sun As the flowers at night, when the day is done. You may sing of your silvery seas by night When the moon looks down with a dreamy light; And the stars shine out in the skies above Like the warm sweet gaze of the eyes of love; But the glow on the lake to-day Is a glory that never will fade away. The beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The trees bend down in the sun's warm glow Till their branches meet in the waves below, And the clouds in the far-off skies Are mirrored anew where the sunlight lies. I love to float where the shadows lie 'Neath the matchless glow of the summer sky; And I love to dream that these waves of light Will never fade in the gloomy night: But I know that the things I love Are as far from my reach as the clouds above. Oh, the beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The cloudlets of Heaven are mirrored there In a golden splendor so bright and fair That the soul is dazzled for aye By the beautiful light of this summer's day. Oh, I love to dream when this life is o'er We shall moor our boats near the golden shore; And our sorrows shall drift from us far away As the leaves that float in their idle play, And the waves shall smile in the sun When the night is over and life is done.

SKU: A0.932364

Composed by Ryan Alexander Noakes. Contemporary. Octavo. 7 pages. Ryan Alexander Noakes #5318807. Published by Ryan Alexander Noakes (A0.932364).

The inspiration for this piece came on a hot summer's day, looking up at the bold blue sky and seeing a single small cloud drift by. As a cloud is an atmospheric phenomenon this is an atmospheric piece - no one voice part has the melody but rather it is the changing of the chords of the full choir that creates the melodic line.

There is no tonal centre to the work, so it is suggested for more advanced choirs. Due to the lack of tonal centre in this piece, it may be easier to learn by simply going through and building each chord in succession so the singers have the sound in their ears before singing through for the first time.

SKU: A0.1024498

Composed by BernadetteM. Debattista, Brad Esbensen. Arranged by Brad Esbensen. Jazz. Octavo. 132 pages. Bernadette M Debattista #6092703. Published by Bernadette M Debattista (A0.1024498).

This work was originally composed for choir by Bernadette Debattista and was first performed at the Dawn Service, commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, in ANZAC Cove on 25 April 2015 by a combined choir from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and All Hallows’ School.

This extended work sees the original theme recomposed for big band and choir. It may be performed in its entirety or the third movement may be omitted (or presented as spoken word only) if a choir is not available. The sax section requires the following doubles: Clarinet for Alto Saxes 1 and 2, and Tenor Sax 2; Flute for Tenor Sax 1; Bassoon for Bari Sax (although a Bari Sax part with no doubles has been included). There is also an optional part for Eb Sarrusophone! Trumpets require Flugelhorns and Harmon mutes.

The recording features excerpts from each of the four movements and a brief description of each follows.

1. Distant Shores With its jaunty, march-like feel, one can only imagine what it must have been like as these young men and women travelled to far off places, fired with the thrill of adventure, blind to the trauma and terrors of war.

2.Your Sons Are Our Sons The title for this movement is a paraphrase of a line in a speech given by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in which he speaks of the special bond between Australia and Turkey. This movement features solo space for Piano and Trumpet.

3.Reflection This movement features a small vocal group, including some of the singers who were present at the 2015 performance in ANZAC Cove, and a reading of the poem that became the lyrics of the song.

4.Hymn The final movement presents the theme in close to its original form, although extensively re-harmonised. A solo trumpet for most of the movement.

I hope you enjoy performing this work.

By Stewart J Wallace. By John Goss (1800-1880). Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. Children,Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Religious. Octavo. 2 pages. Stewart J Wallace #717389. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1115619).

This is an a cappella SATB arrangement that would suit church and school choirs, and could be used as a Christmas anthem. The verses have been reduced from the original text by Edward Caswall (1814-1878), which has six verses, to focus more on Christ rather than tell the full Christmas story. The first two verses begin with an echo in the upper voices, and in the third verse all the voices unite to exclaim Teach, O teach us, holy child. Ideally, this arrangement should be performed without accompaniment, but a keyboard could provide support or an arrangement for brass quartet is available separately.

SKU: A0.912481

Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. Christian,Contemporary,Easter,Romantic Period,Sacred. Octavo. 6 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #3019163. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912481).

Based on Revelation 1: 5-6, Jesus Was The First To Conquer Death is an anthem that resembles the Victorian choral writings of Sir John Goss (1800-1880) and John Stainer (1840-1901). The first part states that Christ is the ruler of all earthly kings and should be sung at a stately manner, but not too slow. The next part, where the choir sings at a slower pace, is about Christ's love for humanity. The final section is performed at a moderately fast tempo and it is about Christ's eternal glory. The speed for the Amen section could be stretched to bring the anthem to a brilliant conclusion.    .
