The first verse's gentle, flowing feel is the comfort of knowing we've been walking a path together. The second verse, a bit stronger, with the full choir entering, builds this comfort and joy of common experience. The third verse, with its darker text, should also have a more misterioso feel, but don't let it drag. Our parting is approaching. The fourth verse should have a lighter, more sparkling feel, with streams and snowflakes and growing understanding that though what may seem final is not, merely a new way of being. The resoluteness of the fifth verse reflects the strength of knowing that the path we have shared together regardless of our proximity, and gives us strength and joy in knowing that our lives are bettered by our shared experiences. Published by Colby Aguilar (A0.1028777). Here is a wonderful of arrangement of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D, but in minor. Various minor keys, that is. There are four key changes throughout the duration of the song, and is composed of 11 parts.With the parts, the choir will have to stagger breathe throughout the piece. The violin that's an octave up, put that back down the octave, and change the harp to a piano, or violin and cello respectively. Sorry for the inconvenience, but now that I've learnt more about the harp, I'm making a proper, separate composition.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Due to the level of intensity, I advise against beginner students, but may be played with as a starting or finale experienced personnel- these are just suggestions, of course, though. The piece is also very lengthy- at a time approximate of 10 minutes, and so should be performed as a starting or finale piece, but again, at your disposal. As are the dynamics, make the piece your own.

Published by Dana Usealman (A0.897947). 2018 Holiday Contest EntrySSAATTBThis arrangement should be performable by a high school choir, but can also be appreciated by a more advanced choir.Willie Nelson's iconic song, made famous by Roy Orbison, was written about a disabled street vendor that would sell gift wrap, ribbons, and pencils during the holiday season. It was later embellished and published as a short story. It's a beautiful, yet somber song, that reminds us that not everyone is jolly during the Christmas season. This is a good piece for the middle of a concert to provide a contrast to the typical Christmas genre or to bring awareness and support to those that struggle during the season. Pretty Paper is typically a simple country song with swinging 8ths, but I've arranged it with full harmonies and straight 8ths for a completely different feel. You could still perform it with swinging 8ths if you'd like more of the original character of the piece. I originally thought it would be an a Capella arrangement and arranged all of the voice parts first, but felt it needed a bit more rhythmic pull and added the piano. It could still be performed a Capella for a more simple, thoughtful performance.

(If you have an alto ((or soprano)) with a deep rich tone, you've found your lead vocalist). This arrangement combines the best of Carole King's words with the soul of Aretha. Since this is more of an R&B groove you won't hear the dissonance and syncopation used for many of the jazz choral tunes you'll find here, but it is not short on feeling (especially with a soulful lead). It is an easy piece to perform and should be well received (especially by the Baby Boomers). Just don't move it too fast.

I've stuck as closely as I could to the original harmonies while splitting the solo parts between the choir parts. I hope you enjoy it. I'll have a YouTube link up at some point. There are some slightly dodgy-sounding rehearsal tracks which you can buy from me if you get in touch through my choir (London City Voices), and I soon should have a backing track you can purchase too, although a karaoke one will work if it's the same structure as the original song.
