ELTON JOHN's instrumental BASQUE for OBOE and GUITAR

Derek Hasted writes Elton John's Basque is a really unusual piece - on the one hand it won a Grammy in 1991 for 'Best Instrumental', and on the other hand it has vanished from sight - it appears that there has only ever been one released version, featuring James Galway on flute. At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.
My oboe arrangement has been transposed to fit in the “sweet spot� of the oboe’s range, where the haunting melody can sing at its best. The guitar part uses a capo on fret 2 so that all the arpeggios shapes are familiar to guitarists of even quite limited experience.

I hope this arrangement will bring this gorgeous melody to the ears of even more people.

There are no dynamics on the music - you will find that the tune brings its own shape to the music. Guitar fingerings are restricted to the first occurrence of the larger chord-shapes, but all these chords will be familiar to players of even modest experience.
