Composed by David Warin Solomons. Comedy,Contemporary. Score and part. 4 pages. David Warin Solomons #1029036. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1449239).

Instrumental re-working of my folksong based on the enjoyment of the deep fried banana in Scotland

Young Hamish he went out to buy him some chips
and ordered a haddock and good saucy dips
His eyes then did wander and he licked his lips
'Cause he'd spotted a Scottish banana

Och aye! that'll do me!
The deep fried banana's just right for my tea!
So Hamish he emptied his wallet right there
and all for the Scottish banana.

all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish banana

Now everyone knows deep fried food does you good
Provided you have a wee apple for pud
But Hamish just kept all that under his hood
Preferring his Scottish banana.

Och aye! that'll do me!
Cos deep fried bananas are all I can see!
So Hamish he picked up his package of food
including the Scottish banana.

all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish banana

Young Hamish went home now with all of his haul
Sat down on the sofa with TV and all
He opened the package and started to bawl
There was fish and chips but no banana!

Och nay! I'll check where I went
It surely was stolen by some passing gent
Or else it escaped while my money was spent
Oh where is my Scottish banana?

all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish banana

But Hamish just couldn't account for his loss
He looked in the heather, he looked in the moss
He questioned a passing great white albatross
But nary a sign of banana!

Oh nay, where can it be?
Bananas don't vanish, bananas don't flee!
So Hamish he turned and then quite suddenly
He slipped on his Scottish banana!

all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish
all for the Scottish banana

Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and part. 33 pages. David McKeown #719825. Published by David McKeown (A0.1118307).

Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United Statesā€™ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplinā€™s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the worldā€™s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers.

The Rags included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite.

They have been arranged as solos for one Oboe with piano accompaniment, and include all sections of the original compositions. You will download one pdf file that contains both 22 pages of piano score and the 10 page solo part. These pieces are suitable for players at an intermediate and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime solos ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. The overall performance time for all five is around 25 minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using these arrangements as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.Ā

The most popularĀ ofĀ Scott Joplinā€™sĀ piano rags during his lifetime,Ā The Maple Leaf RagĀ was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track onĀ Joshua Rifkinā€™sĀ famous 1970 revival recording of Joplinā€™s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films.

This version forĀ Oboe and PianoĀ includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only.

Musicians at anĀ advanced intermediateĀ level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Contemporary,Traditional. Score and part. 6 pages. David Warin Solomons #1029016. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1449196).

Based on the old Scottish ballad Gilderoy, about a handsome highwayman who was eventually betrayed by his mistress.

The last, the dreaded hour is come,
That bears my love from me:
I hear the dead note of the drum,
I mark the fatal tree.
The bell has toll'd; it shakes my heart;
The trumpet speaks thy name:
And must my Gilderoy depart,
To bear a death of shame!

No bosom trembles for thy doom;
No mourner wipes a tear;
The gallows' foot is all they tomb,
The sledge is all thy bier.
Oh Gilderoy! I bethought we then
So soon, so sad to part,
When first in Roslin's lovely glen
You triumph'd o'er my heart?

Your locks they glitter'd to the sheen,
Your hunter garb was trim;
And graceful was the ribbon green,
That bound your many limb!
Ah! little thought I to deplore
Those limbs in fetters bound;
Or hear, upon the scaffold floor,
The midnight hammer sound.

Ye cruel, cruel, that combined
The guiltless to pursue;
My Gilderoy was ever kind,
He could not injure you!
A long adieu! but where shall fly
Thy widow all forlorn,
When ev'ry mean and cruel eye
Regards my wo with scorn?

Yes! they will mock thy widow's tears,
And hate thine orphan boy;
Alas! his infant beauty wears
The form of Gilderoy.
Then will I seek the dreary mound
That wraps thy mouldering clay,
And weep and linger on the ground,
And sigh my heart away.

Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by David McKeown. Romantic Period,Sacred,Spiritual,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 5 pages. David McKeown #3222419. Published by David McKeown (A0.587389).

Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scottā€™s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. This version is arranged as a solo for Oboe with Piano. The pdf file contains both the piano accompaniment and the separate solo part. The overall performance time is around four and a half minutes. The linked full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. Both parts play the melody. The overall performance time is around four and a half minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing and expressive playing. The rhythms are straightforward though there are extended triplet quaver arpeggios which will pose a challenge for the pianistā€™s finger coordination.

Composed by Various. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 24 pages. David McKeown #4594695. Published by David McKeown (A0.587628).

The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Oboe with Piano accompaniment. Whether for that Special Day, for a recital, or for your own entertainment, these arrangements are ideal for players at an intermediate level or higher. The 24-page file includes the piano accompaniments and the separate solo parts at the end.

Kennedy

The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoriaā€™s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since.

The Prince of Denmarkā€™s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremoniesIt was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paulā€™s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

Felix Mendelssohnā€™s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeareā€™s famousplay, Midsummer Nightā€™s Dream. When Queen Victoriaā€™s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.

These four arrangements are also available as single titles for $3.99 each. You can find these along with many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203

Review of Seasons Suite by Kathy Parsons (mainlypiano.com):

The Seasons Suite begins  with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevensā€™ piano and  Iimoriā€™s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of  leaves swirling. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musicianā€™s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds,  Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot!  Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrowā€™s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Seasonā€™s Reprise brings together the  themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite.
