Oboe,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1311555 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,Patriotic,World. Score and part. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #900562. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1311555). This beautiful song is one of the most popular American folk songs, evoking images of the river life of yesteryear. It is sure to be a popular addition to your oboe recital, or it would make an excellent encore piece. The lowest note is the C just under the treble staff and the highest note is the A just above the staff.  The duration is 03:55. As with most folk songs, there are many different versions of Shenandoah, and it’s impossible to determine the song’s exact provenance with any degree of certainty. It probably has its origin among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years. Sailors heading down the Mississippi picked up the song and made it a capstan shanty, which they sang while hauling in the anchor. By the mid-1800s versions of the song were heard almost everywhere the American clipper ships ventured. Shenandoah was one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Add this lovely American song to your oboe repertoire today!

Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6443651. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522269). Ragtime is a form of African-American music which emerged during the late nineteenth century. The ragtime style pre-dates jazz music and was at its most popular between the 1890s until the end of the First World War. It’s related musically to the military band marches of the day; to European salon music and to the popular music of the African-American communities in cities such as St. Louis.

Wales is often referred to as “The Land of Song” and singing has always been an important part of Welsh culture. There are many hundreds of Welsh folk songs, some of which are now recognized internationally. The three songs in this publication were originally from a set of six arranged for mezzo-soprano and piano in 1963 when the arranger, Colin Kirkpatrick was a music student in London. These new arrangements for oboe and piano have retained many features of the original but have been slightly adapted for instrumental use. They would make an excellent addition to any intermediate oboe recital or encore piece. The three songs are: 1. Cysga di, fy Mhlentyn Tlws (Sleep, my Pretty Child)2. Migildi Magildi (Song at the Smithy)3. Si Hei Lwli, ’Mabi (Sleep, my Lovely Baby)

Instrumental Duet,Piano Bassoon,Instrumental Duet,Oboe,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522216 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Holiday,Love. Score and parts. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3691223. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522216). The Water Is Wide (also known as O Waly, Waly) is an old folk song of Scottish origin and like so many other folk songs exists in many variants. The lyrics partly date back to the 1600s but the song remains ever-popular today. This attractive arrangement is for oboe (also playable on flute), bassoon and piano and is intended for intermediate players. The arrangement is intended for student or professional recitals, end-of-semester concerts or would make a popular encore number for a concert. The imagery of the lyrics describes the challenges of love and has been reflected in the lyrical bassoon part of this arrangement. The folk song is the same one that the British composer Benjamin Britten arranged for voice and piano. This new arrangement is certain to be popular with audiences.

Oboe,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1364538 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. 19th Century,Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Score and part. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #948830. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1364538). This is one of the most well-known of all British folksongs and refers to real historical events. It has been used in film and television programs and known to almost everyone in Britain. Skye (also known as “The Isle of Skyeâ€) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. With an area of about 640 square miles, the island is about sixty miles long and lies close to the Scottish mainland.   The boat in the song (“Speed bonny boatâ€) refers to a small sailing ship that in 1746 “carried the lad who was born to be king†to the Isle of Skye. The lad in question was Prince Charles Edward Stuart known affectionately as “Bonnie Prince Charlie.†The song also refers to the Battle of Culloden of April 1746, the last ever battle on British soil, fought between the British Army and the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie.   In June 1746 and disguised as a maid-servant, Charles was secretly transported from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to the more southerly Isle of Skye. This is the event to which the song refers. The Skye Boat Song has its roots in a traditional Gaelic melody. In this arrangement for oboe and piano much of the piece is written in the low register.

Oboe,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1284096 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Easter,Hanukkah,Instructional. Score and part. 6 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #875329. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1284096). This is a lovely reflective solo piece for oboe and piano. All the notes are within easy reach of the early intermediate player. The technical level is about Grade 3 - 4 (UK ABRSM) The range covers low D to the A just above the staff. The oboe part makes considerable use of quarter note triplets and tied notes. The piece has long lyrical phrases, beginning in C major/A minor and ending in F. It is ideal for developing a sustained tone. The piece is rewarding to perform and the piano part has been kept fairly straightforward throughout. It would make an excellent piece for a student recital.

Oboe,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485586 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Early Music,Renaissance. Score and part. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #1062647. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1485586). These are eleven of the most well-known dances of the Renaissance, (in five movements) selected from the famous collection entitled Terpsichore, published in 1612 by Michael Praetorius. They are sure to be a welcome addition to the oboe player's repertoire. The notes of the oboe part have been kept well within the elementary range and the highest note is the B just above the treble staff.By the time Michael Praetorius published his dance collection, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. The name is pronounced terp-SI-cory and rhymes with the word “hickory”. The original publication consisted of 312 dances in four, five and six parts. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble Praetorius was well aware that in practice, they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. These arrangements for oboe and keyboard are based on the original 1612 publication. The music sounds more authentic using a harpsichord rather than a piano, or the harpsichord sound of a digital keyboard. The keyboard part may be interpreted quite freely with ornamentation added as appropriate. During the Renaissance, it was common practice to combine separate dances to create something of more substantial duration. A similar practice is used in these arrangements which are as follows: 1. Three Gavottes; 2. Two Ballets; 3. Two Bourées; 4. Two Courantes and 5. Two Voltas. These delightful dances are sure to add a sparkle to any oboe recital.
